Is there some setting I can change in my user CP so that I don't automatically subscribe to a thread just because I make a comment on one ?
I was reviewing my user CP and found to my astonishment just how many threads I have "subscribed to":11:

even if I just say hi to a new member I get subscribed to another thread.

PS
how can I tell what some of the emoticons are without using them?
a lot of them just have numbers that don't tell me anything.

What type of device are you using to access/post on the forum?

As for subscribing, click on User CP, 'edit options', and then make sure in the column where it says 'Default thread subscription mode' is set for 'DO NOT SUBSCRIBE'. :) Make sure and save it!

As for the emoticons, do you use 'quick reply' or the regular 'reply'? I'll take a current screenshot for you....hold on....

The above screenshot is self-explanatory as to where the Smilies are (and they're not 'just' numbers for me)

I mostly use my PC for making replies. when I make a quick reply I don't see very many emoticons. when I use the post reply button on top of a thread I have the full selection.
only the first 6 or 7 emoticons say happy or embarrassed or whatever, after that I just get numbers like 11 or 23 or something.

If you click on the 'More' button in a regular reply, you should see something like this: (We have more...I only took a few screenshots) Yes, some are numbers, but it shows you what numbers go with what emoticon. ;)
