Hi everyone,

First of all, I apologize for posting on the wrong thread. But right now I'm heart-broken and teary eyed. This is one of the hardest things I ever had to do.

Due to a sudden change of life plans I have to leave the U.S in less than 2 weeks. In order to take my bird with me, I must obtain some permit from the government which takes more than 30 days. I've considered leaving the U.S first and bringing her over later, but I couldn't find any information on shipping birds internationally without an owner. If you know anything about that, please let me know!

...If that works out and I get to be with Trudy, that will be the greatest thing in the world. If it doesn't, however, I am still responsible for finding a right owner for her. Even writing about that is so hard... 'cause I can't imagine her with anybody else. And I've known so many horrible bird owners that I wasn't sure where to look for the right owner. I figured that anybody who loves birds enough to go on a web forum must be a good owner, so here I am.

Trudy is a green cheek conure, born on April 1st 2011. I live in Queens, NY, so anybody around this area can come and take a look. One thing that really worries me is that she is very, very aggressive to anybody else but me. She rarely had a chance to socialize with other people (it took awhile for her to get used to me... and people were extremely fearful of her because of her aggressiveness.) But once she trusts you, she is the sweetest little baby angel. She nippy at times (as most green cheek conures are) but she loves to snuggle and be scratched.

Sorry for babbling, I'm just really panicked right now. So once again, if you know anything about shipping birds internationally (while I'm outside of the country) please let me know. If you're interested in bringing her home, please let me know as well.

Thank you for reading this.

sorry i cannot offer advice on this one, other then i hope there is someway trudy can stay with you, or you find her a loving home in the short time you have

I also can't offer advice, but want to say I hope it works out that you can take her, or find her a good home. It it comes down to it, there are probably good rescues in the area who could take her that would carefully screen potential adopters.

I was under the impression that process could be waived with a note from a vet stating the animal was in good health. Maybe that only applies to the non-feathered, but I don't remember it being specific.

I bet it is difficult. The US and many other countries have an import ban on birds. I think it was partly to stop poaching and selling of wild caught birds, and partly to stop diseases from being brought in.

I didn't think at all about the poaching aspect. I was thinking only medically, which is hard enough as it is!
