Rainbow Lorikeet

Just look at the photo. She looks so sad. It breaks my heart to see her. All that grey on her chest should be orange and blue.

I've nearly dialed the number at least 5 times this afternoon. I stop myself because Hannibal JUST left and I know I'm not experienced enough to fix whatever has caused that poor little angel to pluck herself so badly.

I wanted to post her here though in case someone nearby might be able to step in and help her out.

Is it a scam? Why is the phone number typed out that way?

Wow, that absolutely terrible.

Abzeez, it may be to prevent phishing bots to get your number as most can't decipher the word to a number.

I hope someone would take care of him or bring him to the zoo. Our zoo here in Nashville have a Lorikeet exhibit. They would probably take him. They are one of the special need birds that requires special attention.

Ahhh. That makes sense.

Mikey, if I had a car I'd do it in a heart beat.

I almost got a Lori once. I was in love with one after visiting him for nearly a year on a weekly basis. Brought my partner to go see him and I was given 100% yes cause he was so cute and sweet. The following week my partner was gonna go bring him home to surprise me and he was gone. I was a bit bummed cause I really like him after visiting him for nearly a year.

I do want a lory and its tempting. If nothing else, I could easily become that crazy lady who runs around gathering up the unwanted birdies of the world and finding them new homes. It could get kind of expensive though.

Mom says to hold out until I find what I really want, which is to find a breeder and let a baby choose me. I just feel so sad for that poor little creature.

DON'T DO IT! Yes, it is a shame, but you just rehomes Hannibal. I know it is tempting, but I notice a few flags here. ONE BIG FLAG is I steer clear of posts where the only pictures they post of their bird is WHILE IT"S IN THE CAGE. This shows me that this bird IS NOT HAND TAME! Therefore, I can almost bet that it has been cage bound, plucking is a usual sign of cage bound birds. Youe looking for a pet and I can just about guarantee you this bird ain't it.

I agree with your mother, find a breeder and buy a baby that has been hand fed and well socialized. If not then you will be right back where you were with Hannibal.

But this is just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions, every body has one.

Mike

By the way, my wife has started limiting me on the computer because I keep checking out Craigslist & Ebay classifieds pet sections and feel so bad for most of these birds and dogs that I just want to bring them all home. But reality sets in namely Rosalie my wife. hahahahahaha:eek:

Yeah, I know Mom is right. I just hate seeing an animal in pain and not doing anything about it. I'm not ready for another bird yet either.

I think you are. If you find one more suited to you and your life style now. Like a Senegal, Conure, Pionus or.............. But something smaller and less intimidating.

A GCC I've heard is a nice bird to start off with. Not very loud, the beak isn't as intimidating and generally quiet.

I don't really want to look at any bird I get as a "starter bird" ... I mean, at this point I have zero desire for another macaw or a cockatoo or a grey or any of the "pirate birds" as my nephew calls them.

I don't want a finch or a cockatiel or a budgie either though. I want a bird that I can develop a relationship with beyond feeding and cage cleaning. (I know you can do more than that with cockatiels and budgies ... I just don't feel particularly drawn to them is all.)

I guess I feel a bit guilty even thinking about another bird at this point because of how badly things turned out with me and Hannibal. I feel disloyal somehow. People keep offering me birds. Someone tried to get me to take a female eclectus because she thinks I have a thing for red birds since Hannibal was red and chattering lories are red.

I know nothing about conures or sengals. I should read some books, I guess. Any suggestions?

Andrea posted a nice PDF file a while ago, I'll find it for you.

http://www.2shared.com/document/nTRfnooJ/vol1.html

Here you go! If you need any more info on conure feel free to send me a PM and I'll answer what I know :)! I'm sure Andrea will be glad to help as well.

Don't feel disloyal, you did what was good for Hannibal and that what matters, I'm assuming you've heard no complaining from Hannibals new parents so either that means he's doing fine or he's taken over(I heard a little birdy tell me he is the bird of DOOM). Best thing for you now is to move on and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

I actually got one really nice note telling me they'd arrived home safely and that she actually carried Hannibal inside ON HER ARM ... I never would have believed it had I not seen how well he reacted to her while she was here.

I had completely forgotten Andrea's conure newsletter. I'm going to read that now. :)

I was had to rehome a parrot. I know where she is, and I know she is happy. Don't feel guilty. It wasn't the right fit for you. You will find something more fitting.

And also... I like my pirate parrots! ;)
