I have started locking Venus in her cage because Venus' is too curious and has been climbing down her cage, running across the carpet and checking things out. She will even come over to me, I put my foot down, she steps up on my foot, then I lift my foot so she can climb to my lap. I call this the elevator.

Earlier this week, I took a work call and while I was on the call, she snuck off. Here is where I found her. I had started unloading the dishwasher, left it open and she climbed it, lol. Nothing was on in the kitchen so for the situation she was safe.

Today, she has surprised Husband and I. She left her cage, waddled across the room to Husband. She stepped up for him and sat with him for quite a while. She's done this again this afternoon so Husband is smiling. Now if Buddy would be cooperative but everything new is going to eat him.

Her face is priceless! "Look mom, I found a new playstand!" Eva does the foot elevator thing too, if I set her down in a new "scary" place she will flutter to the floor and waddle over to my foot. She'll take it a step further if I'm wearing jeans and climb all the way up to my shoulder! I love hearing stories of the antics everyone's birds get into :)

Venus has discovered what my Quaker parrot Ralph already knows-- the dishwasher is a fun place to play. :D I have to leave certain clean plates and bowls in my dishwasher because Ralph gets upset if they're not there, and have to pile dirty dishes in the sink during Ralph's supervised playtime in the kitchen so he can climb around in the dishwasher. :)

Cool, a stand with all sorts of perches, nice and low so I can easily drop to the floor when finished chewing. And if I poop, my parronts just close the door and wash it away!

That Venus sure needs an eye kept on her doesn't she :D. She's a very active lady! The female Ekkie I kept was not adventurous, and never did anything unpredictable. I could count on her staying wherever I put her. Venus is an adventure seeker! I wonder which is more 'usual' pet female Eclectus behavior?

Julie it's funny that you point out how active she is. Husband and I have been reading up on Ekkie behavior because her roaming has been going on for about two months now. She comes looking for me and once she finds me, she's on my shoulder, chilling. Prior to her sudden adventurous streak showed, she would stay on or in her cage playing with her toys. And her favorite, the crockpot box. I worry though and keep a look out and keep her off the floor as much as possible. If I can't focus on her, she has to stay in her cage with the door closed, to which she clings to the door and starts rattling it trying to get it to open. My understanding is the females in the wild stay in their nest and do not venture, instead they have several males that come to visit and feed her. I'm curious about what is usual pet female Ekkie behavior too.

Today I saw Husband really smile because of all the attention she was giving him. He's been calling her his princess now, lol.

Scott you cracked me up! She's fearless, she will charge us at night (hence the name Angry Bird), but she's calmed down, I've been working with her on that. She definitely runs this house!

My female Vos has always been rather sedate and shy. Angel never tries to manipulate her cage and rarely touches a toy. But outside the cage she loves to be mobile.... climbs down the cage and enjoys roaming about the floor. (in a safe birdroom) Once free of the cage, she tries to find a narrow area or secluded zone in the room to engage in "nesting behavior," ie scratching with her feet or burrowing into a corner.
