My "tosser pair of gouldians" which is what I call them, had two more chicks.
before I could get to the nest they had already tossed one baby out and I found it dead in the dish :(:mad::mad:
I am so sick of this pair. there is truly nothing worse than to find dead babies:confused:
But the good news is I removed the nest and they had another baby in there!
So I removed it and put it in with my society pair to see if they would foster it.....nope... they won't.

So now I am hand feeding this eenie weeny tiny little goudlian. He was basically starving by the time I got to him, but now he's nice and warm with a full tummy.

this is such a LONG SHOT, but I have to try!
In total my gouldian pair have tossed 7 chicks in the past few months.
I had another society pair, but they never fostered, so they were basically useless.
this current pair I have haven't even been here a week, but I am confident they will foster in the future, like they've done in the past:D

My god that's a tiny chick, good luck to you with that. At least he's got somewhat of a shot now. What crappy parents those two are! They must be so much into each other they don't want to muck it up with babies lol. They never want the honeymoon to end.

Good luck! Got my fingers and toes crossed for the little one! xx

thank you! I fed him again at 10:30 and he was much better! and much stronger.
I have to keep everything super sterile, and feed him every two hours.
say a prayer for this little one that everything goes as planned :)

I hand raised a green singing finch once. It turned out to be a very tame and awesome finch. Good luck!

What a tiny, precious baby! And Gouldian Finches are so gorgeous anyway...they are my favorite Finch! However, those two parents are awful! They remind me of 2 irresponsible teenagers who have no business becoming parents. Too bad we can't put her on the pill, or have one of them neutered!

these parents are young, and they just hooked up in early spring time. It is not unusual for a new inexperienced pair to toss. Actually it is UNUSUAL for a new pair to raise chicks, which I have in the next flight cage :)
I hear what your saying about neutering, but that wouldn't be good for business, lol
sooner or later they should get the hang of it.

Knowing that the pair does that, do you have a brooder?

Such tiny baby! Good luck and I bet you'll do just fine:), just keep him warm.

well, sort of...I have a make shift brooder of sorts, that keeps him toasty warm around 90 degrees.
the parents body temp is the same as ours, 98.6, I don't think 2 degrees will make any difference.
On top of everything else, I have 5 fertile eggs in with him, from the society pair that I just sold!...they have never produced fertile eggs, ever, then I found a buyer for them, not realizing they were sitting on fertile eggs. if I had known, I would not have sold them, rotten timing really :(
