When you touch another animal or person.
When you touch a remote, cam, cell or such.
When you offer a treat they don't want, or offer a treat they DO want (but too slowly).

I know that it does not fit, but the very, very old so, so song: These Boots are Made for Walking: Change the Word Boot for Beak and the Word Walking for Biting and you got a story line!

Love the Poster expansion idea! Once fully fleshed out :)D), recommend it as a Sticky for the Behavior Forum!

Added Note: These Beaks are Made for Biting!

Add to the list:
You moved to fast (already there) or too slow.
You moved.
You're breathing too loud.
You're breathing too quietly, I have to make sure you're alive.
You touched me.
You didn't touch me.
You stopped touching me.
The dog that's been sleeping on the other end of the couch for the past 2 hours. I just noticed it!
The dog is still there!
I want that!

And the number one reason Stephen used to bite:
I gotta poop!

Oh, for sure. Every parrot-person is resonating.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd...

The parrot has a thought about
*something it hates
*something bad you once did
*something it likes and you're not providing at the moment

Yes, parrots can and will bite! It is a mindset and eventuality every parront must face.

Parrot bites can be an interesting venue to conversation! A full-bore attack leaves an interesting duo of wounds. :D

Scott, you are so right.
The Rickeybird has three basic bites.

The nip/pinch which is lightning fast, non-holding, and leaves a quarter-size pale bruise that goes away in a few days.

The bite-hard-and-hold for a second or two, and this leaves a quarter-size dark bruise on top and deep indentation ruts, maybe blood, underneath. This will take over a week to go away.

Finally, the dreaded bite-hold-and-grind bite, which is held as long as possible while slicing and dicing underneath. This leaves pounded steak on top and hamburger underneath, and if it's near a joint, you'll be headed to Urgent Care.

There is a whole science behind which bite happens when and why, of course.

Let me guess: he's the only scientist that understands it, you're just the lowly lab assistant that still needs more training? :)

You are correct, Mr. Bassett.
I see that my lame attempt to hide my true incompetence was detected!

When a parrot is sitting on your shoulder and you go to brush your own hair to the side and get bit

You keep saying you got something for me
Something you call food but confess
You've been eating something else entirely,
Apparently not giving me your best

This beak is made for biting,
And that's just what I'll do
One of these days this beak is gonna get a piece of you.

You keep cryin' when you oughta be grateful
You betrayed me to that avian vet
You don't see I saved us both from danger
It's flight or fight but you ain't fledged right yet

This beak is made for biting,
And that's just what I'll do
One of these days this beak is gonna make a mark on you

You keep saying that you're only just playing
And you keep thinking that you'll never get hurt (HAH)
I just found me a way to open latches (YEAH)
And what I know you ain't had time to learn
This beak is made for biting,
And that's just what I'll do
One of these days this beak is gonna chomp all over you

Are you ready, beak? Start chompin'!

Another reason why parrots bite:
You tried to remove the food they dropped in your hair. They don't want it but you can't have it either.
