So we all know parrots are smart! Plenty of examples on this forum alone of smart birds, but they still surprise you every time they demonstrate their intelligence. Has anyone else seen this behaviour?:
Eddie comes of as a bit of a clumsy fella, always slipping and sliding, walking into things, throwing things around and tripping over his own feet when he runs LOL. But today he showed me just how delicate and clever he can be. I was just putting him to bed and I gave him a cashew, like I sometimes do, just as a bit of a treat. I have noticed in the past that he holds it in his left foot and munches on it, while the crumbs go everywhere. Well clever little Eddie has found a way to eliminate this problem so he can enjoy every last piece of his nut. I gave him his nut and he held it in his beak. He climbed to the top-back perch of his cage and then walked over to his favourite bell toy (which he has pulled the clapper out of). He THEN proceeded to grab the bell with his right foot, flip it upside down, put the nut inside and use it as a cup! I almost fell over in shock! I have never seen him display intelligence like this before. To make sure it wasn't him just playing with a toy while eating, I gave him another nut. Sure enough he did exactly the same thing again, what a clever little bird. I went to get the camera so I could get the photo, but he then stopped doing it I will try and get a photo tomorrow.
In the meantime I will discuss with Eddie about putting a patent on his knew Bell-bowl technology.
Now that I know he is actually smart and is just 'playing' dumb, I think it might be time to start hiding the credit cards and car keys:54:
