Hello! I'm Kari. I'm a professional illustrator/comic artist-- though, my biggest passion is animals. For over ten years, I've been a dog-trainer and animal rehabilitator. I owe my passion to a farm-based childhood; it was an accident, however, that reaffirmed my love of creatures. I nearly lost my ability to walk. A dog helped me prove the medical professionals wrong.

Back on topic, I've had a major phobia of all birds most of my life(I was attacked as a small child, and that scarring stuck with me)-- until a few years ago. I was working part-time at a clinic, when a woman brought in her two conures-- GCC and Sun, respectively. They were so wonderful, that I can now handle small parrots without much fear.

Two years later, I've finally decided to get GCC of my own! I'll be picking my baby out Monday afternoon. Very exciting! :green1:

Welcome to the forum. You're not alone, my m-i-law is very afraid of birds. My amazon has to be in the cage when she visits. Conures seem like very sweet birds, there are alot of conure owners here. Enjoy the forum.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on picking out your first bird....very exciting indeed.

I use to be terrified of birds. Until a little lovebird came into my life and stole my heart....Now I am owned my three fids and I couldn't imagine my life without them.

Any name ideas for your new baby.

If I get a male-- 'Cash'. Female, I'm unsure. I'm totally open to suggestions.

I love the name Cash what about Cassie for a female it is similar to Cash. Congratulations on conquering your fear.

Congrats on your new baby!!! Birds are wonderful. I love my puppies they are pretty wonderful too but nothing is quite like having a bird and earning their trust and love.

I was afraid of Charlie at first, the people at the pet store said he was a little monster and we were inclined to believe them because we took their advice and used gloves. Turns out he was a very sweet bird he was just terrified of the gloves. Once we lost the gloves he lost the attitude and we lost our fear. Oliver is super sweet but he still timid around new people but in a few more weeks I'm sure he'll be over that with all the people we have in and out of our house on the weekends.
