RIP Constantine: Jenday Conure
I just recently brought home my 8 mo old Jenday Conure from the pet store that I work for. At the store, he made lots of the usual conure noises from screams to little whimpers and whines. I've had him for 4 days now and he's only screamed once and that was when he met himself in a mirror for the first time. Other than that, he's very quiet even when I play conure videos from YouTube or talk to him.

I'm guessing he's being so quiet just because he's in a new environment? The cage he's in now is just a tad smaller than the store display but has loads more toys and yummy snacks to occupy him with. Anyone have any ideas as to why he's so quiet? Thanks!

You're exactly right, give him some time, he'll settle in and once he's more comfortable he'll get louder. We had our alex for almost a month before I even heard her make any noise and she screamed the entire time we we're at her previous home.

I agree. Once he settles in you might miss the quiet, lol! Well, actually I like conure noise. Maybe I'm nuts though.

I like the noise too :) While he was still at the store; if I walked past and didn't say hi, he'd let the entire store know. Also if I was on the other side of the store, he'd call to me. Makes me wish I could whistle just so I could call back. Or is another employee was showing him to a customer (which always scared me) if he saw me, that was the end of him meeting the new person. He'd take a flying leap just to reach me even if I wasn't paying attention and helping another customer. Thankfully, I always caught him before he hit the floor or anything else. Such a silly baby lol

Guido was very quiet when we first got him as well.

That changed though..... :D

You can call back. I taught my Nanday to use "Hey, hey" for a contact call. It's more pleasant than the screech and we can both say it. Try that, or "I'm ok." or whatever you would like to use.

He's already learning to say hey so that'd be a good word. I kinda want him to use mama. I think that'd be cute.

Turns out he knows how to burp which I accidentally taught him (I only did it once after drinking a soda!) and he does a little fart sound like I do when I tell him to poop. Not really things I want him imitating....

One of my birds is doing a fart sound as well. First I blamed it on the new zon since he does other gross sounds like slurping. But, I swear the last time I heard it, I was certain the Nanday did it. Yeah, kind of embarrassing!
