Baxter - Illiger's Macaw (hatch date 5.1.15);

Taylor - Black capped Conure (RIP 3.14.15 - miss you every day little "Girlie")
Today my son and I decided to drop in to the bird shop in our area just to spend a little time with their birds.

Not too long into our visit, we saw a bird that they NEVER have in the shop...

an Illigers Macaw!

I couldn't believe it.

Of course, once the people in the store discovered I actually knew what kind of bird it was and that we were a little bit interested, they couldn't get a holding blanket for us fast enough (the bird is only about 7 weeks old and not perching yet).

We spent over an hour enjoying our time with "Birdie". My son fell in love and I knew this was our bird. You know when you just KNOW? That is what happened today.

"Birdie" is being DNA sexed so we are holding off on naming him/her for now. He will be staying at the bird store for at least another 4 weeks as he is still being hand fed. The store is very good about letting the bird wean at their own pace. But, we will get to visit with him as much as we want. Of course, we are going to see him tomorrow!

So no more "talk me out of this bird or that bird" threads from me LOL! The search is over!

Thank you all for your support during these past few weeks!

So glad the right one found you! Congrats on your new baby. I can't wait to see more pics and updates. I am curious what store this is as those are pretty rare to find in a pet shop.

What a beautiful baby! You must be thrilled:D For those who haven't felt that instant connection before, it's hard to explain just how important it is to wait for the 'right' bird. And you know him/her the moment you lay eyes on them! So nice you finally met your match:D

Oh how cute !!!!!!!!!!

YAYYYY!!!!! :D I've got chills running up and down my back here! What an awesome and heart-warming thread. And yup, I'm grinning from one ear to the next for you (all of you)!!! :D

This was meant to be, NO doubt in my mind. You were at the right place at the right time, and voila....the connection was made and all you saw and felt was this --> :smile015: :smile015: :smile015:

SO so very happy for you!! This is great! Let the fun and the adventure begin. A new chapter in your life, and the best is yet to come.

Thanks for sharing my excitement!!!

I can't wait to start preparing for "Birdie's" homecoming!

My son and I are planning to build a playstand together - need to refer back to Birdman's post ;)

Congratulations! What a gorgeous little Mac. I can tell by your post this is the absolute perfect bird for you. He/she will be a fantastic addition to your family. Looking forward to more photos and hearing about the homecoming.

What a beautiful bird! Congratulations! I'm so happy that you and your son both have found this connection! Please keep the pics and updates coming, as we'll be watching with great interest.

Congratulations! He/she is a beautiful bird. I built a similar playstand to birdman's. It may take some time, but your little one will love it.

Congrats! So happy for you and your family! You sound and seem super excited and happy! It's such an exciting time for you! Can't wait to hear about his homecoming:)

You don't see many of those guys around. I've never worked with one so I'll be living vicariously through you with this little guy. I imagine they are similar to yellow collards,, but I honestly don't know...

They are very much like yellow collars.

OP great choice! You're going to love him/her.

YAY!!!:D I am thrilled for you Shawna! This is perfect. Close relative of the YCM that you originally wanted too. You see that it was absolutely meant to be!

I LOVE Illigers. They have such beautiful colors and love the yellow skin patch. I see these babies at Omar's in Southern CA seasonally, and always get excited when they're there.

Can't wait to hear the sex and name!

There was an illigers out at a store by us that my hubby was eyeballing before I brought Kyo home… he so wants a big bird but this birdie momma is not ready for that beak yet :p

Congrats!!! They seem like lovely little macs :)
