Our new feather baby....she is a rescue and I think a "Sun" Conure?

Looks like a sun to me. Though I'll admit I'm better with his small green cousins :)

Welcome!

Yup! Looks like a sun to me too. She's beautiful by the way. Congrats!

That is DEFINITELY a sun conure. No doubt about that.

Congrats on your new addition. I love the fact that she is a 'rescue'. It's always nice to hear of rescue birds finding safe and, hopefully, forever homes.

Oh yeah...I don't take the responsibility if it's not a forever home. I had three Parakeets that passed at 8, 8 and 9. Vahar-Shepherd at 12. Wrinkle-Chi mix-17 Tubo-Pom 17. Roxy-Pit 10 (seizures :( ) Autumn-cat 18. My current companions Wicket-cat 18 SeKuna-Rez dog 3 Tuck Tuck Schnauzer- 5..I always have a nouner....Tuck is my third....ALL my animals, past ans present, are rescue. Even my tortoise and tarantulas are rescue.

That's great that you do that. Had I "planned" on getting Skittles, I might have gone with a rescue but it wasn't something I had planned on doing. It just sort of happened.

Suns are not really a lot of work but they are very demanding in terms of their needs and I think a lot of people don't do their research prior to getting one, which is sad.

But your new addition looks in rather good shape, appears healthy. Have you thought of a name yet? What sort of diet are you feeding her?

Your new family member is beautiful! Congrats!

I want to change her name as I don't like calling her "Izzy" for Esmeralda We
're wanting something that reflects her beautiful colors. She has lived on Cockatiel food. I have oredered her Harrison's from amazon...we order everything from amazon , with Prime it beats a trip to Flagstaff, 50 miles away lol. I went to walmart today as it's ht only store we have and bought her the Parrot food available there till it comes in. She eats no fruits or veggies...but I have already started working on that.

Glad to hear you are getting her Harrisons. You will be pleased at the changes, it's really a remarkable food. Just be sure she is in fact eating as converting to pellets is a crap shoot. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Everything in the Harrisons provides all the nutrients your sunny will need. But for variety, you can try the following.

Since Harrisons is organic, its best to go organic on the table foods you get for your sunny. (Its also better for you). But not everyone has access to or able to afford them. If you can't get the organic, go with frozen as most produce nowadays is 'treated' and exposed to numerous elements.

Things like grapes and apples, you can easily find organic or you can wash, peel and then rinse the fruit. That's what I do with Skittles.

You'll likely have to experiment with different table foods before you find out what she likes. But the best place to start is the dark green and orange "meaty" fruits and veggies like broccoli, spinach, carrots, sweet potatoes, papaya, mango and star fruit.

Skittles will only eat broccoli and sweet potatoes out of that batch. He really likes apples, grapes and strawberries. I have to be very careful with the broccoli and strawberries given there outer layers.

You may also want to try pasta, my Skittles goes bonkers for pasta. He thinks its the coolest thing since sliced bread. Something else he likes but I prefer to limit that given the yeast content.

To be honest you may call her pretty bird (or some other nickname) half the time anyway :)

I'm sure once she's opened up she'll love her new world.

Name suggestion: Jas/Jazz = Jasmine = From disney's alladin = a whole new world

You could also call her Topaz (yellow birthstone)

We bought her a big cage but people on here are saying the bars won't be strong enough for her...though she has never picked at her bars since we've had her.....just tears the heck out of her toys playing...we open her door for her but as of right now...she just sits in hte open door....it'll take time.

It looks like she's in a flight cage already, which although isn't recommended for parrots of that size, if she doesn't bite at the bars it might be fine. The doors look pretty easy to escape though!

I have a better idea... Go get her another cage, and go rescue some finches or a few budgies for the new flight cage :).

I like Jonathan's suggestion of Topaz for a name.
