Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
How many of you also find this little snuggle hissing adorable???
I only know it from experience, and only my conures did it (not the budgies or canaries), but particularly at bedtime when i give the final good night kisses, i get the happy hissing and normally the affectionate rubbing the face against me at the same time. I find this so adorable yet i rarely hear people talk about it or see articles about it.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but when you say hiss do you mean like a snake hiss or is it more like a groan, like when someone is stretching they kinda groan because it feels good?

Yes I have always wondered what it meant. My sun conure who is 1 year, 4 months does it too.

Well, his is more like a “ Haaaahhh Haaaahhh” than a hiss. I love it when he does it because he always makes sure to do it right by my face so I could smell his birdie breath. He does it when he is very comfortable perching on or beside me.

If he is really happy though, he accompanies it with the standard break grind, coos, purrs and gurgles. It is so cute. I hope this is not just a young bird thing and that he would keep doing it when he’s older.

My two conures have done more like a little rough breathing HEEEE HEEEEE (not like laughing hee hee, but like make the H a rough breathing sound) and they act all "squishy" affectionate and rub face against me.
And BoomBoom, if it is the same thing (which it sounds really similar) Georgie did it until the day she died. It was so adorable.

My CHC never hissed, but he did make a "tch tch tch" like noise.

My MC does "hiss" and he also 'purrs'.

I'm still learning the sounds of my RTC, and she does "purr" but it seems to be in imitation of a human trying to make a purring noise with their mouth/tongue rather than the purr of my MC.
