Kiwi- Green Cheek Conure
I have been taking Kiwi and Mango out on the back porch to listen to our resident mocking bird. They both light up when they here its songs. As far as i can tell there is 3 or 4 in my neighborhood. I'm waiting for Kiwi to start copying it at bed time ,which is when she practices her new noises.

I love mocking birds! That will be really neat if Kiwi starts imitating that one:)

While Mocking Birds get a bad rep for dive bombing people who get near their nest, I really do like how they can mimic other creatures. Around my house, they have learned to mimic the Red Tailed Hawk to scare off other birds from the food supply.

When I was living in Florida one spring I had a mockingbird that liked to perch and sing on top of the hangar that I worked in. We had an alarm on our street door that would make three beeps every time it opened. Occasionally the wind would keep it open and it would beep so someone would have to go pull it shut.

One day, "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" Dang it, the door is open again. I go to pull it closed but it was latched.

I start walking away.... "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" ...uh, what?

Look again. Door is latched. *puzzled*

Walk half way across the hangar.... "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!"

OK, I'm irritated. Go stand next to door...

"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" Straight above my head and I noticed it was mixed in with bird song. I look out the door and up. Yup. Mockingbird.

It was really funny but it sure played havoc with us knowing if that door was open for the next couple of months. He sure was a good singer and imitator, though. I enjoyed listening to him. He had that beep absolutely perfect.
