Rescued budgie Anna RIP
A little back story first.
I haven't been out of my apartment complex for over a year due to covid. Wanting to get out I decided to go look at a new parrot store, because l am thinking of getting another parrot. So I called uber and I went. When I walked in to the store all the parrots calling out was music to my ears. I started to get excited. I was looking for a small parrot. As I looked in each cage. The waters were dirty, not just dirty I mean the water was really cloudy. My parrot put his food it the water and in the morning the water is dirty but not but not cloudy. This water looked like is was days since it was cleaned. Only one person was working in the store. I still was excited about looking for a parrot. I saw green cheeks. Parakeets, cockatiels. As I looked in each cage and saw how bad they were being taken care of, I found myself making excuses. Saying to myself I will jive them a better life. The I started see in each cage that at least one was fluffed up, eyes squinting, some even had a little shake to them. I still thought I could make this work. I still was excited about being there. All of a sudden it was like someone slapped me on the side of the head. And the excitement left me and I realized that they were all not doing good and for me to get out.
I'm writing this to let everyone know, don't let the excitement cloud your judgment. Nothing good could of come from that if I let my excitement cloud my thinking.
So please really think what you are doing.
If you have to take someone along that can slap you on the side of your head.
To stores down happen to be a barbershop. So I went and got a hair cut instead.
I looked into rescues. But they sad no because of my dog.

I rescued 2 bird from a petstore .One of them a bird I never expected to get - Expensive bird and expensive vet bills. Sometimes people suck.

So sad to see any creature suffering in filth. Makes you want to buy/rescue them all. I'm guessing your local animal welfare authorities are too overburdened to care enough to take action. :(

Do they have a FB presence? Be interesting to see their reviews!
By chance, are they in this list?

That is horrible! Can you report to local humane society, animal control, ASPCA, BB or local chamber of congress on the conditions there? Also write to the owner to let them know the deplorable conditions. THe actual owner may have no idea the staff is so clueless.

Flboy I'm not ready for another parrot just yet. For the birds is where I bought Axel. Her store is the best. When Robin was alive, she hand fed all the babies, and would put them on pellets as she weaned them.
You could go in her store a their would be birds that would come right up to the front of the cage to see you.
The funny thing is I saw that and I wanted to get a bird. So I told her I would be back. I did my research, I bought book after book on different species, on training taking care of a parrot. Amd I went back to Robin's store.I looked around and found a jenday conure. I knew they were loud, but small enough for an apartment. She let me take her out and she was on my finger. Robin and I were talking about cages and that lovely little parrot bit me so hard and hung on and wouldn't let go. Blood is running down my finger. Robin ran to get a toy to distract her. I didn't try and fling her off my finger, Robin had the toy trying to get her to let go, she wouldn't. So I started laughing Robin's laughing blood is running down my hand and finally she let go. I put back in the cage. Robin help me with my finger. Yes I bought that lovely parrot. I was hoping for a boy. Robin thought is was a girl. I got her dna and it was a girl. She came to be an amazing parrot. I told Robin that my dream parrot was a galah.
6 months letter I get a call and Robin said she was feeding a pair of galahs and that's how I got Axel. When I am ready I will go back to For the birds. Robin's assistant is the one that has the store now. I go in to buy toys once in awhile.
Wow I guess I got off topic.

It is so important to remember that when you walk into a Pet Store of that condition, you not only seen the dirt, but you have also been exposed to all the bad to dangerous bugs! And, unless you get a bit nuts /crazy before entering your home, you are likely bring those things home to your Parrots.

When you see that kind of dirt, it if fair to guess that they are not cleaning to current monster virus standards as well! Kindly report them, you are doing your community a favor!

As a General Comments! Do Not Buy Sick Parrots from dirt Shops! You are only supporting their sick method of selling Birds!
