I think the main point of this article is the variety that we can feed our AG. Most specifically the addition of meat/bone.
Our greys are carnivorous critters anyway you slice it!!

Its kind of funny, funny strange not funny ha ha, that we strive to find ways to get sources of minerals and nutrients into our fids knowing that its benificial to their health, and then to watch them in the wild flocking to clay licks and mud holes to eat the earth to get what it is we can't figure out, makes you wonder sometimes who's more intelligent :11:

I myself have never fed meat to a parrot, one being I'm not really sure how much protien is left in cooked meat, and I'd be to scared to feed them raw meat, and another reason is that they claim that humans dont really process meat all that well, I'm thinking a parrot wouldn't fair any better in that respect, I have fed chicken and chicken bones in the past though, while bones being benificial in calcium and marrow probably being a good source of protien I worry about perferation of organs from them, and yes I'm a worry wart...lol, I feed fruits and veggies everyday and a few times a week I add chopped insects for protien, that article stated that birds are carniverous, other than birds of prey I would imagine that the only way for most parrots to eat meat in
the wild, other than insects is to be opportunists and to come upon an animal thats already dead......

Bobby, I'm with you on the worrying. Along with every good suggetion/bit of advice I get, I think of 10 things that will keep me up at night...

I have read from other sources that parrots have been known to eat carrion. Every animal needs protein, and Nature has provided an adequate supply for them in their natural environment. Since a home in Surburbia USA isn't necessarily the natural environment for Ruby, I really appreciate this sort of information.

I agree with you Di, I really enjoy this more when folks share their info and ideas with meaningful dialog instead of contradiction and condescendance
