Well, I was going to keep this under wraps just a bit longer until he was hatched and weaning, but what the heck
So here's my official announcement I'm getting a little boy Ruppell's Parrot!!
Our new member "parrotlover1176" is also getting a baby Ruppell's from the same place (maybe our birds will be siblings?) The clutches are just hatching now! Our conversation about this is in her introduction post
So I just spoke to the breeder who will be hand feeding. First, a little back story - The parent birds are owned by Steve Garvin of the Feather Tree. He is one of the first breeders to establish captive Ruppell's parrots in the US. For the GCC people here, he's also pretty well known as a 'pioneer' in regard to developing new GCC mutations. If I'm not mistaken, Steve is the one who first developed the "pineapple" mutation GCC.
Gail (reputable breeder in her own right) and who will be handfeeding our babies tells me that they will be weaned and ready in approximately 11-12 weeks from hatching. I'm very excited... Seems like a long wait, but not considering I've been waiting with my deposit in since last winter even before the eggs were laid!
