the 'blinking' game

It goes like this: catch the bird's eye and close both of your eyes for a little longer than a blink. When you open them, look at the bird expectantly. usually, they will do it too. If not the first time, then fairly quickly.

But what *is* it? Some sort of communication? Just a game? I've used it to sort of show that I'm not a threat, especially with my son's budgies. Wondering if anyone else does this, or what.

I hope I remember this tomorrow, because I'd love to see if Bumble, my parrotlet, will play.

I've tried this with Pazu (no success) but I vaguely remember reading a while ago that this "blinking game" is something eclectus' just tend to do. No idea why though.

Interesting, I will try this with my Goffins and see if they play!

No luck. They just stare at me as though I lost my mind!

However, they do play another sort of game: I'll look at one bird, quickly move my head to look at another, or different object, and immediately return. Repeat the cycle.... After one or two head-twists, they do the same! I've done this with 3 goffins and it is hilarious to see them all play along.

aww Scott that sounds awesome!

I tried with my son's parakeets, they seem to blink for a long time, the goofy little fluffers. Now I wanna try with the neighborhood crows. :D

My friend can get her RB2 to wink back at her LOL.

A head bob also works as something to copy.
