It’s taken time for me to learn Bella’s body language (or maybe that should read it’s taken time for Bella to train me).
When she is not interested in letting me scratch, pet, or even pick her up she gets this fluffed up look.

She has not actually bitten me. She prefers flight to fight and will back away if she can and if not she will fly away rather than let me interact with me.
It is only my hands that she does not want to get close to. I can give her a kiss on the beak but I can’t touch any part of her with my hands.

So far as I know I have never harmed her with my hands. Not even the threat of it. I could not do that to any of my Fids.
I do hope she gets over this.

Yep, that's the look, I call it bull fighting mode b/c Perjo lowers her head and makes a specific clicking sound when she gets puffy, I don't dare stick my face close to her, she's daring me to come closer. I will put my fist near her fast and say "you wanna fight", she's not keen at biting the bulk of my fist and knuckles, she knows she can't really get a hold of me that way.

Pretty basic, but have you tried putting her favorite treat between your fingers and making her really work at getting it out? I got think that even the most obtuse Grey will get it after awhile, that hands and fingers are good but treats taste better.

she would do anything for a small bit of cheese. next time she gives me attitude I will try to coax her out of it with a bite of sharp Cheddar.

sounds like a typical grey to me Wes.. I told Smokey she was acting "all big bird" when she did the fluff thing to me..and cheese and a chicken leg bone were good motivators :D

The Rb doesn't fluff when mad. He gets very skinny and tight-feathered and tall. The only time he fluffs is when napping or getting ready to roost at night. I call this putting his bed-feathers on.

Buzz fluffs when scared and he doesn't want me close. Venus too, Buddy just lunges at everyone but me trying to take a chunk of flesh. Buzz hasn't bitten me but has grabbed my finger with his beak and pushed me away though.
