Hey, I didn’t know where to put this, but are any measures being taken to help the poor animals in Texas where Harvey is?

An excellent question! ParrotForums is not able to collect and distribute funds nor advocate for contributions to specific sources.

I would hope each person evaluates their abilities and means and gives in whatever manner is most appropriate. My biggest concerns with giving is that the largest possible amount go to program expenses and scams are avoided. All charities have overhead and fund raise, though the best are extremely efficient and use 10% or less toward secondary needs.

There are many websites that help guide you towards meaningful charities. I use www.charitynavigator.org to help assess where to give.

Austin Pets Alive! is currently taking in TONS of rescued animals from Houston into their shelters all over Southeast Texas. They can use any help they can get monetarily and for fosters for these rescued animals.

Tons of people are working very hard to save animals in Houston, and many of those end up in Austin. It's a great cause to give to.

EDIT: I just read your post, Scott, and if I wasn't supposed to put this up, please let me know!

Dallas Pets Alive is also helping out with the animals. I didn't know they had an Austin division. But I can verify their legitimacy, I was already signed up as a volunteer for them before Harvey happened.
