Anyone who owns pionus parrots, please tell me everything you know about them. Please share your experiences and which pionus you have and which pio you think is known to be more cuddlier and sociable. Are they similarly known to be as cuddly as senegals?

Just tell me everything you know about them and how a normal interaction with them is. Also please fight yourself from repeating things that get repeated often to scare of new bird owners since this bird is for a friend who has owned couple of parrots already and is experienced enough. So please stick to the topic.

Thanks in advance.

My only experience with pionus parrots is with my girl Piper. She is a 4 month old Maximillian pionus and I've only had her little over a month. From the research I have done, it seems that the maximillians are known for having more outgoing personalities than some of the other pionus species.

The biggest thing I have noticed is that they are generally very shy parrots. They tend to take a while to warm up to new situations and people, so you have to take things very slowly. I wouldn't say that they are known for being very cuddly, although Piper really enjoys having her head scritched.

Please keep in mind that these are just generalizations I am making based on my limited experience and research. Every parrot will have a unique personality, so it is really impossible to tell exactly what traits an individual bird will have without meeting that actual bird.
