I can't believe how effective clicker training is.
Clicker training with Tangie, my mom's senegal: if he steps up without buying, he gets a click and a treat. If he steps up and bites, he gets not treat and put back down on my knee, where he stepped up from.
First day of clicker training- every other stepup, he bit.
Day two: Six for six step-ups without biting. I'm gonna keep going, but I can't believe how effective this simple training method is. I'm sure he'll bite again, but a couple times a day of this seems like it could go a long way!
And most importantly- if I can work with Tangie, I feel better about taking home a bird that might be nippier than I expect.
Cute thing he did- I've been walking in and giving him a shelled almond every time I walk in. The other day, he started opening his food dish door. Not to escape, but to tell me, "I'm ready for my almond!"
