American Yellowface parrotlet "paquito"
Green IRN "Georgey"
2 budgies "lemon" and "sky"
when i talk to my IRN he usually goes climbing and just goes around the cage, is he paying attention or not? he usually does that most of the time:green2:

hes been with me like for two weeks

I'm thinking only your IRN can answer this one, or maybe if we're lucky we have a bird whisperer out there ;)

hes very shy and when i talk to him he loses his shyness and just goes climbing all over the cage

You must remember that what you say makes absolutely no sense to him, you can speak about politics it wont matter to him.;) He still needs to learn meanings to words. He is however listening to the tone of your voice and picking up on signals that you project. How big is his cage and how old is he?

I would doubt he knows what you are saying but I think it's important to keep on talking to him..... not commands just chat away. As the trust builds you can start training him & focus his attention.

You need to spend as much time possible talking to him, actually, after having him for 2 weeks already, you can start offering him treats. He needs to learn that he can trust you and trust your hands.

Give us more details.;)

before when i opened his cage he always used to kind of fly around all crazy and scared, now he goes on top of the cage, still i try to offer him millet or any fruit, he goes far away from me

Just be patient, it took my ecky a couple of months before she was comfortable with me and even longer before she'd take any treats. Just sit near the cage as often as you can talking to him, eating your dinner, watching TV whatever you're doing that requires you to sit. While he is skittish with you keep the door closed so he doesn't fly off. Over time he'lll realise you're not a threat and setllte down - be aware this may be months, when he is calmer with you have the door open.

I know this is a touchy topic but you could try clipping his wings, some guardians have found thier birds have settled quite a bit and have made a lot of progress by the time the feathers grow again. This is really a personal decision and I don't mean it to start another debate - just a suggestion.

Also try a treat that he doesn't get in his dish everyday. I don't give my girls sunflower seeds in thier everyday diet, only by hand so they are a real treat.

thank you, now im at my wits end can a home accident make lose trust with me, ok so he started flying around and well i wanted him back to his cage and somehow he got his foot caught on something and cut his toe, not a bad injury justa little scrape, im really worried :(

I am sorry to hear.:( If I was you then I would not let him out of the cage until he has learned to step-up. Take him to an avian vet to treat the toe and give him an overall health check (the toe can get infection and then you will have to spend thousands on medical bills).

Consider to have his wings clipped - in my opinion it will be the best thing for both of you. During this time you two can learn to trust and bond and it will be 90% easier than now.;) If you do not want to clip then you HAVE to bird proof your house to prevent more accidents and there will be more. There are several info on the web about bird proofing.
