Hi all! I'm new and looking for advice! I've had many small birds over the years but have been taking time and saving money for the bird of my dreams and I've decided on an Eclectus! But I'm afraid of actually choosing a breeder because there are so many scammers and lousy breeders out there. Any recommendations on a breeder?

Hello and welcome!

Where in this wide world are you? That will make a big difference. No sense in recommending an American breeder if your in australia!

Well, welcome to the USA since that now gets you down to a few thousand miles east to west and a thousand plus miles north to south. Within that area, there is no question that there are a bunch of Breeders that will likely meet your wants. Sadly, the really good Breeders are likely not going to ship you a Baby Parrot since the likelihood of the Baby not making the trip increases greatly by distance and temperature variation.

In the many regions within the lower 48, it should be possible to find a Breeder within a two day drive. Are you able to make that kind of trip?

When one leaves their 'want' at the door and offers the Parrot the opportunity to choose, it is commonly a better place to start from. Since the Parrot is the one to begin the process. That means that you may find yourself making a long trip and none of the Parrots choose you. Or, you get home and that Baby grows up and finds that someone else in the family is of more interest.

Have you considered working with an older Parrot? And if so, if you let them choose its even a greater likelihood of success since the Parrot is an Adult and what you see is what you get.

I live in Montana. I am willing to travel to pick up and would actually prefer that so that I can meet the breeder and ensure the birds safety. I would definitely consider an adult bird.
