Sylvarie Jenday Conure
well first off i am a veteran with ptsd and i figured that a bird would help me with my issues. was i ever surprised and shocked when i was having a a ptsd moment with Sylvarie on my shoulder and he started biting my ear until it hurt then screaming into it. until i calmed down enough to talk to and sooth him as well as me. it worked i did not go off on my wife and son like i used to.

about a week later i came home and was having some issues my son had Sylvarie in the other room. he jumped down and ran into the room where i was and preceded to climb up to my ear and bite and coo in it.

no blood was drawn but it seems to be helping me deal with my issues
here is a shot of sylvarie helping me calm down

Firstly, Thank you for your service. And I know of several birds that act as "Emotional Service Animals". Particularly with PTSD. You can get a letter from your doctor stating that your bird IS a service animal, and you can bring him with you wherever you go. Using birds as service animals is relatively new, and many people are unaware of, or don't believe this. I often say that our animals come into our lives for different reasons. Now you know why he is with you. Bless you both.

Pets could be best doctors ever. Good to hear that this little bird is bringing such calmness.

What a great bird. Sounds like he is tuned in to you. It makes sense to me since birds are sensitive creatures, capable of picking up on body language. Sorry about your PTSD, I too suffer with it. But for different reasons then yours. At any rate, it's good to see that your lil friends is helping to direct your attention at something positive. My husband and I just had a conversation about why I gravitate towards animals so much. Like we have a zoo, we only have 1 dog, 1 fish and 2 birds. If he had it his way though, we would have no animals. It was a big conversation just before we got Rio, our Senegel hen. I had to explain to him how my animals make me feel, they have a calming effect on me. I have always wanted a Senegal, and she is it. Birds fascinate me, i love to just sit and watch them. We had a canary that died about 6 months ago. I loved him so much. I could sit and just watch him while listening to him sing. He was very soothing to me. I was devastated and cried for a long time when he died. I think that surprised my husband, even though he liked Skittle very much, he was just a bird to him.

So when I am feeling out of sort, they force me to calm myself, remember where I am, think, and direct my energy to something positive instead of going off on my family. I wish you great success in your recovery.
