Just want to share my newly paired lovebirds. Last January, I bought a pair of lovebirds Sanji( orange hood opaline ****) and Robin (whitefaced seagreen hen). The seller told me that their bonded pair and a year old. They get along very well for 10 months in my care but Robin hasn't lay egg since the day I bought them and that's the time I thought both of them are males. Based also on their behaviors where in they can't tuck nesting materials on their rump or wings and when I tried to feel their pelvic bones which are very close.
Last August, I bought two blue pied lovebirds. I named them Hinata(darker one) and Konan (lighter blue one). I'm not sure about their genders but seems both of them are bonded because they shared the nestbox I gave them, they don't fight and feed each other. I observed them for a month where in I also gave them nesting materials and I noticed both of them tuck nesting materials on their rump and wings. I think both of them are girls.
On October, I decided to put the four of them in my flight cage without nestbox because I want them to switch partners in natural way. For a month, I observed them and seems Sanji and Hinata are getting along well while Robin and Konan are not in good terms because everytime Konan get near with Robin, Robin always bite Konan's feet and seems Robin is jealous with Hinata. That's why on November 1, I pulled out Sanji and Hinata and put them on a separate cage without nestbox. I didn't put nestbox because I wanted them to bond more. After 2 weeks, I think Robin finally accepted Konan as it's new mate and little by little Robin started to bond with Konan.
Yesterday, I took a pic of them and I want them to share their sweetness to each other. I hope the switching of pairs i've made become successful and finally they will breed because I'm excited what mutation both pairs can give. Right now they still don't have nestbox and i'll put nestbox this December. Hope you like their pictures.
