Today after the smaller birds had play time on top of their cage I decided it was time to let Rocky out. I put the little ones away(the quaker cussed me) and opened Rockys cage. She immediately climbed out and wanted a head scratch and beak rub. She made the sweetest faces and sounds! Since she is molting I found so many new feathers that need unwrapped. They feel like little pins and must be so uncomfortable for her. Just now I found her using another feather to scratch her head! If I were able to rename her she would most definately be named something cutsie sweet. I don't know if she has ever had a bath in her life and we will try it for an upcoming obstacle to conquer. How can I help her with these new feathers without hurting her by twisting them? Oh and apparently carrots or anything else red is supposed to get thrown back at my face. Changing her to pelleted food is going to be such a challenge. Can't get her to eat much of anything(except the french fry my husband gave her with out asking me first).

Your correct about the pin feathers take your finger and thumb and rub them back and forth and it should come out with ease just be careful its not a blood feather as it could hurt her and you will end up getting a bite for it lol as for the pellets I'd just slowly introduce them to her mix a few in with her other food without her knowing that should do the trick. :)

Just as Paul described should do the trick.

As for baths, my Amazons absolutely LOVE water. Try with a warm mist, slowly and watch her reaction. :)

As for the food, try offering carrots in different shapes, perhaps? What about peas? Have you tried peas? Converting to pellets will be a challenge and it may take some time, but patience will pay off.

In the meantime, keep offering loads of fresh fruits and veggies.

And ....pictures are always welcome :)

Thank you for the advice! I will try to get some pics of her very soon. She just isnt camera ready yet because of this molt. A girl doesn't like her photo taken before she has her makeup on! She has been one happy zon today roaming out of her cage and spending much time on my arm and hand. Good ting my computer mouse is wireless as she prefers to be on my wrist. She loves a beak rub and wants me to help with those pesky feathers. Tomorrow morning we will try with a light mist to see what happens. I know regurgitating is a sign or affection but I need more info on this. Could it be an indicator of her being male or female? Tell me what ya'll know about this behavior in a bird as young as her. She is estimated to be between 1 1/2 and 2? Since I don't know her hatch date this could be wrong.

how is she doing with the rest of the family ? Every one getting a chance to be buddies also?

The regurgitating could be male/female, just means she's looking for acceptance. At that age boy/girl doesn't mean much to her. She's looking for her place in the flock. That's why you need to expose her to other peoples and situations when ever you can. The preening is a good thing, you need to let her preen you in return. I'm sure she has tried . Maybe she's "nibbling" the hair on your arm or hands. It should work both ways , you do her and she does you. That means your accepted as apart of the flock.

My husband tries when he can to pay attention to her. She bit him today but he was a trooper and didn't react at all. The kids are only here long enough to eat, sleep and change clothes but they do say "Hello Rocky" when passing through the room. Thats amazing considering I mostly get "I love you" texts. Jerry, my husband, will continue to try with her and love to give her damn french fries. The man thinks that since they are baked then they are close to health food for him. He works third shift so he is trying to spent time with her when he can.

I practiced the mutual preening thing today knowing that was a bonding behavior. Most of my time spent with Jacob monkey is spent with him picking me only. I just consider normal pack behavior for that animal and use it. I just hope Rocky isn't looking for me to puke for him/her cuz that's not going to happen, lol.
