2 x rainbow lorikeets. Pistachio is a normal coloured 1 1/2 yo birdie who's currently on a diet and Zazu is my grey/green or olive baby, about 4 moths old
Hi All,

After doing a bit of reading in here, and a bit of research myself, I am starting to wonder if my Pistachio could be a "Swainsons Lorikeet"?

I was always under the impression that he was just a normal rainbow lorikeet - he's basically identical to all the native birds around here, but I was reading that standard Rainbows tend to have bars on their chests...which he certainly doesn't.

Any ideas?

ETA: he's the bird on the left - his belly is a beautiful bright blue, apologies for the dodgy photo

Beautiful birds! I'm not too sure, but after a quick google search he definitely does look like a Swainsons.

Well, both *ARE* rainbow lorikeets... only, they are different subspecies of rainbow lorikeets. Rainbow lorikeets have ~20 different subspecies, which means a variety of birds that may have some similar characteristics in behavior, diet and appearance.
