So I'm putting this here and not in the Lovebird forum, because this is and isn't on Lovebirds.

My birthday is coming up on April 6th (Turning 21 bring on the shots!)

My brother knows I want a friend for Gabby, because her behavior has changed. She has her back towards Nips and Dino and LOVES to hide in her bed.

I think now it's best to be looking at getting her a larger cage, and a friend.

Opinions? Is that normal behavior for a single Lovebird. o_o Should I push my brother towards getting me one.

Happy early birthday!

But you should never buy a bird for your bird. They could end up hating one another. Plus, twice the space, twice the cost, twice the food, twice the time.

You should only buy another bird for YOU.

I love my birds, while I was on vacation I was afraid my dad was going to sell them. When I got home I was so happy to find out they were still there. I'm always look to expand my little flock I have in my room. The songs they sing for me never annoy me, but Gabby has always had a friend with her. Mozzi is now with Sydney, so I feel like she's alone. The good news is I know how to introduce birds, before forcing them together.

-Though with Nips getting her to want Dino wasn't an issue-

I just don't want Gabby to keep up the behavior she has now. She's attacking me through the bars of her cage, (unless that's code for something else) I plan to get her a larger cage. So fair shes in a small cage, meant for parakeets.

Maybe I'll convince him to buy me (her) a larger cage. Money well spent.

And thank you :)

I believe Gabby is a year old, and since Nips or Dino (I don't know who) is laying eggs. I could be that reason. I'm pretty sure its her cage size though.

Hang on lemme get a picture of her cage.

I plan to go to a bird breeder tomorrow to get their opinion on this. But I'm looking at cages. I hope to be able to get one for her.

That's a good choice, a bird breeder would definitely know more than myself.

I would also try to get a bigger cage, I definitely agree with you on that!

(PS: Your lovie is adorable!)

Thank you! I have to say my family calls all my lovies ugly, but each of them is beautiful in their own way. :)

sorry I brag about my babies a lot

I think I would definitely work on getting her a new, larger cage first, if it was me, before getting another lovebird:)

If she's a year old, then it could definitely be hormones- your current set up has several locations she could use as a "nest" ....the happy hut, under the dishes, and the towel on the cage could be also contributing.

I think you need to get Gabby a larger cage first and deal with her hormonal issues before getting another lovebird.

I personally would get rid of the happy hut thing and add more toys....also, just curious- what kind of diet do you have your lovies on?

Uhm wow didn't think I'd get a lot of responses while I was at work.

1. I am planning to get her a larger cage, I'm looking at some right now.

2. I have a TON of toys I can add in, and while I'm at the breeder place (Because it's also a store) I plan to buy some more toys and she can shred.

3. Gabby hasn't laid an egg. Unless she's a male lovie ( O:) or showed signs of trying to nest like Nips and Dino have.

4. Something something something something something.

5. Uhm...... Yes this was really under a different forum I forgot about it
-facedesk-

6. I'll take the happy hut out, but I know she really likes it.

7. They eat mainly seeds that are meant for Lovebirds, I've tried to give them fruit and they flip the dishes over ._. Gabby use to eat grapes and bananas when she shared a cage with Mozzi, I dont know why she's not eating them now.

1. I bet there are tons of good deals on craigslist!! I see them allll the time- lots of cheap ones!

2. You could hang a lot of those toys if you take out that hut

3. She loves to hide in her hut, she's bitey, her behavior has changed, she's 1, it's spring -sounds like hormones to me.

6. Doesn't matter if she likes it- it's contributing to nesting/hormonal behavior and she needs the room for toys and to stretch her wings out until you're able to get a larger cage for her....only use the towel to cover her cage at night, keep it all the way off during the day

7. Just keep trying, every day...use a different dish- ones they can't flip over or dump out. Try new things...try sprouting- I bet they would like them!!
