Two Cockatiels: Rascal (Geraldine) and his baby brother named Coconut!
I had been looking for many many months specifically for a cinnamon tiel to buy or adopt local to me with no success (they all turned out to be female and I was hoping for a male).... so I was waiting for DNA results on a cinnamon baby which is 4 hours from where I live and DNA results show this baby tiel is a male!!!! I have to wait another week or 2 before he is fully weaned and then I go on "road trip" and get the tiel.

OMG... I fell in love with this tiel when I saw his pictures. Very happy I can FINALLY get my tiel a brother :D

The breeder says the baby tiel LOVES to cuddle and loves scritches!!! Is it common for baby tiel to be so cuddly at such young age?? (check out him bending his head down for scritches!). The cuteness level so high I cannot take it!! LOL

It is going to be an 8 hour drive back and forth to get this baby tiel LOL. I have a relative who lives where the baby tiel is so I might spend the night and then get the baby tiel in morning and drive home... or I might just do it all in one day... not sure yet.

Anyone here think driving 4 hours to get him and then 4 hours back home is too much driving to do in one day?

I've driven 12 hours in a day. With that being said, if spending the night is at all convenient, it will likely be more enjoyable on your end.

I wouldn't worry about a 4 hour drive twice in one day. I did 8-12 straight many times no problem. Drove 20 hours straight once too but I was starting to hallucinate (don't do that!). Get your rest first, grab some light snacks for the trip and enjoy the drive!

I don't know how common it is but my baby Dusty loves his scritches and cuddles a lot too! If I poke my finger into his cage near him he'll bow for pets and he loves loves loves to be on my shoulder while I give pets. Today when I went to the kitchen while his cage door was open he flew to me and landed on my shoulder. Such a good boy!

I guess I'll just make the whole trip in one day... that way I don't have to pack or spend the night at mom's house which is a plus lol. She lives in the city where that baby bird is and also in my city.

I just hope it doesn't rain.... nothing worse than driving on highway when it's a downpour.

My tiel has no idea he will be getting a little brother to fight, sing, or play with soon hehe :D

He is SO cute! Love his little cheeky smile. Grats!

Chopped up ginger root from the grocery or adding ginger to water is great to have on hand in case baby tiel gets car sick. Works for people too :)

I make a ginger and turmeric shot every single day... it's the worst lol (because I put a huge chunk of ginger and turmeric in it, because I like to torture myself, and blend it).... I know ginger water is MUCH more pleasant but I'm not too worried about him getting car sick.

The breeder offered to show me how to handfed the tiel since he is not fully weaned yet until about another week or so (he's getting handfed twice a day)... but when I told her I really do not know what I am doing.... she said it's best she finish weaning him herself in that case.... is handfeeding simple to do?

Congratulations on your cute littel boy! I'm glad you found exactly what you wanted. That's a good feeling. The cinnamon mutation is such a pretty color. I hope your little Rascal will enjoy having a baby brother soon :).

Rascal sleeps all day long and does nothing else, he's always been this way. I work from home and spend all day with him.. he has TONS of toys but doesn't really play with them. He's a velcro bird ALWAYS sitting on me and follows me everywhere.

I cannot wait to see him start singing to his brother when he gets older... I know he will appreciate not being alone now when I leave the house and he cannot come with me... now he will have a brother to play or fight with hehe :D

I'm so excited for you!! He looks to be an absolute sweetheart.
Any name ideas yet?

Since I love tropical things I'm leaning towards naming him "Coconut". One day I MIGHT also have a GCC and will name the GCC "Kiwi"... but I think maybe I'll name this cinnamon tiel Coconut... or Bandit maybe? I'm not sure.... :)

Looks like my tiel's new brother is going to be named Coconut! :D I like the name Banana too... I think that would suit a lutino tiel... I like tropical themes :)

Since this new tiel is a much lighter color than Rascal (who is my other tiel) the name Coconut will suit him. Sooooo exited eager to be able to bring home the new tiel.

I do have a confession though... even though I named my current tiel "Rascal"... someone named him "Geraldine" as a joke when I first got him... and since then everyone always calls my tiel Geraldine so that has become my tiel's name LOL. I hate that name... it's a very strange name for a bird, especially a male bird!... but I got so used to calling him Geraldine... that its become my tiel's name... or I should say nickname LOL... so I always call my tiel "Geraldine" in real life, never Rascal :p
