Due to the mess these birds make indoors, I recently moved my birds cages outside. So they eat outside, and spend a good bit of time outside. I have noticed really miraculous effects from this.

I grossly underestimated their need for sunlight, despite reading how crucial vitamin D is for them. The birds seem happier, healthier, and their feathers are quite noticeably more vibrant. My female especially has grown in more feathers that I can recall, and is looking bright and happy.

It is almost a no-brainer. Birds are outdoor creatures! They really need the unfiltered access to sunlight, even to properly assimilate the nutrients in their food. I was even keeping them outside for 3 hours a day previous to this change, but now that they are outside most of the time, the effect is quite remarkable.

This is why in pursuing a new home for them I have been specifically looking for someone with an outdoor aviary. To all bird owners, I highly encourage you to find ways to take your birds outside more, to give them access to unfiltered sunlight. Prepare to be amazed!
