Hi All,
Ok, I have 3 birds. A female GCC & Sun, and a male Sun. My male Sun definitely qualifies as goof of the year. Anyhow, when he is out on flat ground, he will often stop and back up as fast as he can until he eventually runs into something. It is not a startle because he may do this once or twice more. He almost always does it when we hand wrestle. So, I'm thinking some goofy play thing, but I would love other opinions. Thanks in advance!

Skittles does this all the time. He will usually stay near the place he bumps into and then sneak behind something. He also does this 'one foot in front of the other' "sneaky walk".

Yup, just before pooping, it is quite cute to watch. Our tiel used to do this too.

I've never seen Skittles do that before pooping. He does raise his tale before pooping though.

I've seen mine do only a few steps before a poop, but not what you are describing. However, due to having a dog, cat, husband who wears combat boots, and kids around a lot, I don't really let me birds on the floor so it could be that they would if I let them :)

I wonder if they outgrow it too because like I said my tiel 'used' to do it but she hasn't for about a year (she's two).

It is really funny to watch. Tiki backs up about 2 feet sometimes to poop and we have hardwood floors so we hear really fast pitter patter while he backs up and then a big poop. He will even back up under the cage and I am like, thanks Tiki, you are making me crawl under to clean up after you, hehe. It seams to be the first morning poop only however. I don't notice it too much with the others. We are trying to train him to perch on a garbage can to do his morning poop and it is not going great because he will jump off the garbage can and back up on the floor.

Booger has a hella reverse gear, especially when on an unmade bed with materials he can back up under. He seems to use his tail like a backup mirror to feel his way around. Its not a pre-crap ritual.. when hes crapping he flys to his cage, pokes his butt of the side, raises tail and his wings go straight up. Biggest deal Ive ever seen a bird do over taking a crap. hah

Sun conures, they seriousley are the clowns of the bird world. :D

@WilliamKenyon Understatement, lol.

Suns are literally like toddlers. I tell people that Skittles is like a toddler on a caffeine high.

Lol, loud, clingy toddlers on a caffeine high! But....you can't help but love them and they do make you laugh...seriously laugh.

That's true. I'm happiest when I'm with Skitty. He makes me laugh. You just never know what they are going to do next. Then, just when you think you have them figured out, they throw a wrench in it.

Because of that, Skittles is not allowed near the toolbox. Actually, it's because he throws the hammer down when he doesn't get his way. I saw him do it too. He then bolted, he's nuts. haha!

PS, speaking of 'suns in reverse gear', has anyone ever found the 'parking' gear? I suppose not since suns don't really have brakes. Or even breaks for that matter, unless they are actually breaking something.
