Hi
I am new here but not new to the bird world. I used to own love birds, canaries, fischers, cocktiels and finches.I am thinking about getting Sun conure. I went to an exotic bird shop today and he had two and both of them were sold but he told me he is expecting one and he is taking deposit on him. He was asking $325 (which was above my budget). Is he asking too much or is it a fair price? If I got only one is he going to be lonely ? How big the cage should be?

It would help to know where you are located. $325 sounds like a fair price, but then pricing is pretty much what the market will bear. I have seen suns sell for $225, but you have to watch for deals like that. Post your general market area & someone may know of available birds in your area.

I live in Chicago but I am willing to travel around 50 miles if I can get better price.

were I live Sun's go for about 600 but I drove four hours to a breeder and only had to pay 220 for kyro so you can always google Sun conjure breeders in Chicago and see what pops up, if you give him enough attention everyday he should be just fine, my cage is about 24'' x 28'' if I'm not mistaken and he's got plenty of room but I wouldn't go any smaller:)

Suns cost about $600 in my region for hand raised babies. (NJ) As long as you form a relationship with your bird, you will not need to keep multiple parrots. Sometimes it can make your own bonding and training more difficult if you were to get 2 instead of 1.
You can often find suns who need homes too (adopt one) if you aren't absolutely set on having a baby bird. They do require attention and training, and they can get noisy when they don't get what they need, so sometimes they end up re-homed.

Pet store birds typically cost more than breeder birds do. A breeder may charge $200-$400 for a bird, while the same bird could be sold for $500-$700 in a pet store. It's up to you to think of what a fair price is that you are willing to pay.

Is the $325 bird tame? Friendly? Out-going? Does it come with any health checks? DNA certificate? Health warranty?

There was a cherry headed conure in one of the local pet stores here and the pet store wanted $500 for the bird. He was friendly and playful while inside the cage, but the moment you opened the cage door, he was clinging to the back of the cage, afraid. He was fine to play through the cage bars and interact, but those very same bars were his safety net. Not only that but he was clipped. I would have loved to have bought him, but I know I could buy a young bird without those safety issues from a breeder... and if I were to pay $500 or more for the bird from a breeder, that bird better be able to fly and know a few commands!

By the way can I put more than one conure Species together?

Yes, you can, if the two birds get along... but if they are opposite sex, they could hybridize.
