sun conure help

Need some advise my wifes sun conure has bonded with me and loves me alot and bites her he has just come back from a time out so to speak the local bird man had him for a couple of days to see what affect us being away would do cause he was so high strung he needed to have a rest he is home now and starting to show signs of his love again but has not bitten anyone as yet he is calmer.If it was my personal bird it would be great but its my wifes bird and she is devistated my personal (family) bird is oscar the eclectus and he is doing fine had many posts on here about him to but all is good does anybody have any experience with this matter any help would be great.

Hey Its the wife here and gotta be honest and say that its not the nicest feeling to be lunged at and attacked by my own bird. He came back after 4 days away and was certainly a calmer bird but the day after that he was back on track loving my husband. The loving him is not an issue, it shows the bird and I have good taste (threw that one in for you babe) but he will not come out of the cage for me, he scampers up on hubbys shoulder and becomes territorial and I have no show getting him off until he is ready. That is where we both get bitten the most. Baxter is worse as it is holidays and hubby is home a lot more. We have done the whole hubby ignoring the bird and me offering treats but now Baxter just screams for attention when Mark enters the room. He is a 2yr old that was rehoused due to previous females work commitments but I have my doubts if that was the whole story.......Please help us as we are at our wits end and I am starting to feel hopeless that we can keep Baxter as a companion bird and he may be relegated to an aviary or worse rehoused

My Dusky Conure does all that to my dad. When i first got Dusty he loved my dad. My dad would sit by the cage and talk to him or walk around the house with him on his shoulder. My dad and I both treated Dusty the same. Well I went away to college and my parents took care of Dusty for me. During the time i was away, (only one month..i came home for break), Dusty started to hate my dad. If my dad gets to close to the cage dusty lunges at him. If i am holding Dusty and my dad comes into the room dusty will either try to attach my dad or he will bite me depending on how far away my dad is. I havent quite figured out why he developed the adversion to my dad. all i know that it is connected with me going away to school. I have yet to figure out how to get dusty to like my dad again... sorry I didnt really have anything to help you with...

We had a similar problem with our Sun conure. He was supposed to be my husbands bird but he had other ideas and now he's my bird. We know he had at least one bad experience with a man and possibly more. He is very territorial with me. I am told that conures are often one person birds. He would also attack me if I had things in my hands. Spoons, remote control...things like that. We clipped his wings and it made him a better bird. There is a bit of a debate on the wing clipping thing but I guess it comes down to your (and the birds) personal situation. You might want to check an earlier thread to get all the pros and cons. Some people feel that it's unhealthy to clip the birds. I don't know if this will help you or not but this was our experience.

My Conure's wings are clipped. I don't think that it actually affects behavior to much. I mean sometimes It may.
