Summer heat!

:14: So it's getting hotter! I cover my Lilly with a thin fleece every night when it's bed time. My windows are always open but is that enough to keep her from being too warm on hot nights?

Would you suggest I don't cover her in the summer? Or would a thin linen bed sheet be a much better idea?

I cover Plum the same all year round, even in the Winter he generates his own heat anyway. Ensure that with open windows a) she is safe from intruders, b) she is not in a draught. I use a valance sheet which is large enough to cover most of Plum's cage with some dark towels at the ends to make it a bit darker.

Take your cue's from Lilly and see how she is IMO. Too hot = wings out/away from body.

Thanks !!! Funny thing is I've never seen her sleep. if I take a peak her eyes are always wide open. LOL. I'll keep check!

I still cover Boomer, Pewpew and Kiki with the same sheet I use year round (thin, black, cotton) but I don't cover the cage entirely to let air pass through. Some cage walls are draped, others there's a window. On hot nights, I open the window to let cold air in. Get two fans blowing in and out to promote air circulation. I live in California (closer to beach) so summers can get hot.

PS. Give him access to bathing water often, frequent showers, etc. You'll be fine!

PS. At night, just let her sleep. Don't peak As prey animals, the smallest sound / movement rouses them from sleep. Must be alert at all times so they don't get eaten by predators. She'll need lots of uninterrupted, quality rest. What Plum means is during the day, wings out means overheated.

As Kiwibon and I are in the UK there should not be a problem. Daytime temps mid 20's F and going down to 13 F approx at night, currently. Draughts are probably more likely to be an issue than heat tbh.

I regularly check Plum at night but he has got used to it.
