Suggestions, which should I get? :)

Hi bird lovers!

I have a green cheek conure and sun conure and have been thinking about my next and final bird, I want to "upgrade" to a bigger bird and also something that has a higher chance of learning more easily understandable words. My favourite birds even without those things are macaws, galahs, amazons and greys. The fact that they are all bigger and have a better talking ability is just a plus!

I have not owned any of these types of birds before and would love some input. I won't be getting any of them for at least another year, so I have a lot of time to plan and research.

These are my picks;

Blue and Gold Macaw
African Grey
DYH Amazon
Galah

I honestly love them as much as each other and really can't pick, the only deciding factor for me would be the breed that would have a higher chance of getting along with my two conures, who love each other. I was thinking that out of all these, an african grey might be best. Independent, less aggressive and medium sized. What are your thoughts?

If talking is your criteria for a bird then you should get a bird that has been proven to talk. If you get a baby bird there is no guarantee of talking. Note to you: GCC may be small but they have a huge attitude and love to rule the roost. If you take in a larger bird keep this bird in a totally separate room and not out while the conures are out. The GCC fear nothing and will attack the newcomer.

I have a TAG and a GCC and they get along really well. She is not an aggressive type at all , But I know most are, like Spiritbird said . In fact my Mom's GCC does try and attack my TAG so when her GCC is here I have to keep him in a different room. And even though mine do get along I still only let them have playtime under close supervision cause it would not take much for a grey to really hurt a GCC.

PM you are fortunate your birds get along well. The gcc conure can be a lilttle warrior at times. I am so happy for you.

I wouldn't say there's no guarantee that a baby bird won't talk I think its just a case of how much time you have to sit and talk to your bird I find that with our Senegal we spent loads of time talking to her and now she's started to talk I think any bird will talk if you put in the time to talk to it my breeder who I'm getting sky from my BFA sky's mother and father can hold a full convo with ken the breeder and he has had both of the since they were hatchlings so in this case I think the more time you spend talking to your bird the higher the chance of it talking.

I would have to vote Grey!! They are very amazing and incredible intelligent and generally they do talk. (however as was stated there are no guarantee's) If you take a rehome or rescue in you will know of it's talking ability plus give a parrot a second chance. Just a thought for you.

Sorry I should clarify, I meant that having being known for being able to talk is a plus for me but not a necessity.

I am in Australia, greys, macaws and amazons are never rehomed because they cost thousands of dollars and arare so sadly adoption is not an option...
