This past weekend my SIL came down to visit with her family and dropped some news on me. Five years ago her employer bought a house for her family in which she has been paying the note. Last week, her employer dropped by and told her she was selling the house, they could buy it or would have to move with no official notice and definitely not a 30 day notice. However today they found a house and are moving this weekend and they've asked us to come help.

So now I'm hitting up my family and close friends to find someone to sit my dogs and parrots. The dogs are easy but everyone so far is afraid of Buddy my GCA and so far no takers. One family member promised to help with the move so he doesn't have to watch Buddy, lol!!!!!

So I pose the question, has anyone left their fids for 48 hours? I can't bring myself to do that and I've told Husband he might be going to move alone while I sit pets.

Have you called any professional pet sitters (ones with actual businesses listed in the phone book, not people on craigslist who will "watch your pets")? My parents birds are not friendly to strangers, but there is still a local pet sitter who will come feed and water them while they are out of town. Buddy may not be able to come out (which is for the best anyways) but I'm sure you could find a pet sitter willing to come change his food and water while your gone:)

Wife has done 24 hours, but not 48, I would be terrified! You can always ship Buddy to me, I promise to return him.....someday!:54::54:

Can't you take Buddy with you?

My fear is the distance from the house they are moving from and too. They are about 30 mins apart. We've taken the fids many times with us as well as the dogs but I don't have a good feeling about this. This family has had "visitors" show up and run. Even some vandalism. It's so hot right now I do not want to leave them in either house unsupervised. I'd die if anything happened to any of them.

Maybe there is an AA member who is close to where your sister is and they could watch Buddy for the time you need while you move your sister. Leave the other birds/pets home with sitters.

IMHO you need to take care of your pets, let the move proceed without your direct help. Perhaps you could compensate in another way, such as baking cookies, brownies, or even making a picnic lunch for them?

In the past 20+ years, yes. I have done that with Robin plenty of times and he was fine. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that anymore with my birds, but he as an individual was just fine.

Thought I'd update this. We got up early Saturday morning and drove to family's and helped them out till around 3pm and drove home. When we got there, my SIL told me she was glad we didn't bring the dogs and shared with me that they were having issues with one of their dogs Blue, who is a Pitbull. Apparently he didn't adjust so well to the move and bit one person, and got into a fight with a 3 month old puppy they have so Blue was put in the fenced yard. She was worried that Blue would get violent with my dogs, especially Canelo. They do well with each other but I'm so glad we didn't take them. I did go outside and sat on the step with Blue. He wanted attention so I gave him some and some puppy treats as well as played tug o war with his rope toy. I think all the activity and new place was a bit much for him.

So we got to go help out family and keep the animals safe and taken care of.
