Since owning our birds we've never taken more than an over nighter and he had a conference in Las Vegas last week. When he told me he was being sent to Vegas, I said...well, you aren't going without me So even though I gave my job 5 weeks notice that I was going to be gone for 4 days, can you believe everything seemed to melt down just days before I was supposed to board the plane? So after after a bunch of blood, sweat, tears and late nights I was able to get away from work myself and go with him for 4 days.
My bestest friend in the whole world came and watched over my teenage sons, our dogs, the horses, cats and yes, our birds.
Funny thing, it wasn't my children I was worried about, nor our dogs, or the horses, cat's can always fend for themselves...but our birds...awww..our dear dear birds...now THEM I couldn't get off my mind! I missed them sooo much!
The 4 days in Vegas made me truly realize what a permanent fixutre these guys are in my life, how much I truly truly enjoy their company, their antics, their talking/squawking/chirping/whistling/singing.
When out and about I enjoyed bird watching more than anything else in Vegas. Even found a pigeon with absolutely no toes on one foot...I named him Peg Leg.
Yes, they missed us as much as we missed them....especially our once feral pigeon...wholly cow...she was climbing the cage bars flapping her wings and cooing when she saw me. I rescue/stole her from the big city on September 16th and she's the most amazing bird. When I let down her cage door she hopped on my hand and ran up onto my chest and I kissed and cuddled and sung her her song for like 10 minutes before letting her go to fly around the house...with which, she flew a lap and landed on my head where she refused to leave me.
My oldest son walks out of his bedroom (14 years old) Wayyyyy to cool to give Mom a hug, I said..."HI Michael!" and threw out my arms, he nods his head up and says.."Hey." and walks into the kitchen. :11: Kids....
Our trip was a success, my spouse and I got 4 days together which was a real treat. And all our pets remembered us when we got back.
Sooo funny too...it was NFR week, and I'm a huge rodeo fan, and he intended to get us tickets to the rodeo one night, and we were watching the highlights on TV after dinner and I said...you know...I'm just and old fuddy duddy and frankly, I'd rather go get some snacks and watch it here in our room on the TV in an hour, we have close up action, instant replays and most of all, it's COMFORTABLE and IF we can get tickets...we'll be paying top dollar for the nose bleed seats in the cobwebs...I'd rather have in the arena action right here on the TV. (TV is a real treat for us, because we choose NOT to have TV at home.)
My co workers all laughed when I told them I was going to Vegas to relax...they didn't believe me...but that's EXACTLY what I did
Take care,
Toni
