So, there are a few groups on Facebook that they call "online yard sales". It's essentially people selling, trading or donating all kinds of things. About a month ago, a woman listed a pair of parakeets with a cage, toys and everything for sale for 50 bucks. I jumped on it, because it seemed like a good deal. I've spent the last month getting their diet changed and trying to get them used to me, but they are extremely skittish. They don't even chirp and whistle when I or any other person is in the room. I think it's really strange for parakeets who are usually full of chirps and whistles. Anyway, fast forward to now, and I am bored on my computer and scanning the yard sale sites when that same woman is looking to buy MORE parakeets.

I can't imagine why she would want more if she didn't want to keep the ones she had. I asked her, and I quote "Why didn't you keep the pair that you sold to me? They're doing great, by the way. Lots of new toys and I've got them on a healthy, pelleted diet. :)" I am waiting on her to reply now.

I guess what I'm wondering is, should I have said something? I'm sure she is probably going to be angry, but I was suspicious, thinking she was getting more birds (for cheap) and going to resell them a month later. I also worry for any bird's health in her care, as the ones I purchased are extremely skittish around people.

Anyway, I just wanted to get this off my chest.

Yeah wow..... that is very strange!! But I guess no one can really stop her :\. I don't even know what to say about this...

Hahaha let her get angry at you, no reason to feel defensive youre doing being great concerned for the wellfare and sing songy character of your parakeets.
Maybe theyre ashamed of their voices,
. . no no thats not it.
But I have heard if parakeets withdrawl and go weeks without singing and more sleeping its because they are probably a little sick. Another reason could be is that theyre females if they are then thats why they do not make a peep. Only males sing, but if you have a pair male/female then the hen will sing occasionally

Well, I have 2 female budgies and they're both pretty noisy and chattery! They don't sing, but they do like to chatter and go "KAK KAK KAK KAK KAK!!" hahaha :). Do they chirp/chatter when no one is in the room? My ex had a budgie who chirped and chattered constantly, until you went into the room. If he could see you, he would be silent lol. He was perfectly healthy though!

I have 3 different species of parrots in one cage so they go off alot theyre pre-pubescent though I suspect them to go silent with age
=^(
2 females chatter, really?fascinating!
Are they adults? young? may I see pictures{:
I love the innocence of the hens!

Let her get mad at you! Is the comment publicly visible? :-)

Yep they are adults! They're roughly 1 year old now. They're pretty quiet normally but they do chatter a lot at times!! I'll try to get pictures tomorrow, I have SO much homework tonight :(.

Comment is completely visible to everyone. She says that she sold them because her boyfriend didn't have a job and she needed the money, but when I got them I asked her how old they were and she said she didn't know, she only had them a couple of months. The whole deal is just shady and weird. But I called her on it and it's public so maybe other people will realize that she doesn't deserve birds.

Anyway, I think they're male and female, one of them has a dark brown cere and the other has a sort of very light bluish cere. Last time I had parakeets the male's cere was a very vibrant blue. I can hear them sing and chirp and chatter when I am not in the room, but the minute I walk in, it is silence. And they obviously don't like each other. They can't stand being near one another and always fight if they are within a couple inches. I am considering separating them, but they don't seem to hurt each other. I feel so bad for them, I don't think they were physically abused, but they obviously were neglected. I hope that they become more used to me. I love parakeets and the little chattering noises they make. :)

Hmmmm.... I'm not sure if you should separate them or not. I have a feeling people will say separate, since maybe it's stressful for them to be in the same cage, but sometimes it's nice to have someone else. So "when the big giant comes in the room," neither of them is alone. I would say the chattering thing is normal. My parakeets get quiet if I'm standing by the cage too. I guess it makes them nervous? Parakeets are more skittish by nature than other parrots, so they probably just get a little scared when you go into their room.

EDIT: Forgot to say, good job!!

Dont seperate them by the way they need to get along. I have 3 once enemies cuddling together, except for Jerry hes the alpha male of the parakeets chirps dances and fights if anyones close, his only exception is his wife.
