Ok so day three and my rescue who they told me doesn't like men has fallen for my husband:) so my question is: Is it normal for a macaw to try and stick their tongue in ones mouth? It's like an obsession with her as soon as she goes to him she goes straight to his mouth. So is this normal?

At least i get a good laugh!

haha thats hilarious! i dont know about Macaws but my Blue Crowned does it to me all the time!

My galah has done it twice, I've sense learned how to tell if she is going to try and make sure she doesn't. Our saliva has very dangerous gram negative bacteria that avian's don't have and it can make them very sick.

Yup, it's normal. I constantly have to remind my Niko that I don't want a French kiss from him, but he doesn't take "no" for an answer easily. :54:

Yes, I've dubbed mine the 'kissing Macaw'...he sticks his tongue out on average 50 times per day. His timing is pretty funny/cool as well, if he is on my arm and I ask him, 'do you love mommy?' he'll stick his tongue out at me. It's cheap entertainment =)

My macaw used to lick - she would get on you and try to lick you all over. I think she spent too much time with the dogs. She was always out of her cage and loved the dogs. They would all hang out together.

It's fairly normal, an as a pp said, our saliva is toxic to them, but don't be alarmed if they get you a few times in the mouth, it happens all the time. lol

I have made the mistake of feeding Clifford nuts out of my mouth. Macaws don't ever seem to forget anything so now he wants to check my teeth for any nut pieces at every opportunity.
