I'm on vacation this week, so the birdies are sleeping later. When I woke them both everything was normal. Then I started hearing a weird sound. I finally realized it was from Happy, my Amazon. As I zeroed in on the problem from the rear, I knew something was wrong. I called hubby home, called the vet to tell them we were on the way.
On the drive there out pops an egg.😲
For 14 yrs everyone thought Happy was a boy.
If most of you remember I was given happy 1 yr ago from his original owner who was 84 yrs old.
They had him, sorry her since she was a baby. I guess they never DNA'd her.
At least the name Happy can be for either but it's going to take getting used to calling her a girl.

Wow, what a shocker that must have been! Hopefully that will be the only egg from the lovely Miss Happy.

Indeed a shocker! I have had Amy now for almost 27 years, got her at 14 weeks old. This spring when I took her in for a wellness check, since they were going to do blood work anyway,I decided to have her DNA'd..

Surprise surprise! Amy is really AMOS,in drag! I always thought she was a she .
I am not changer "her" name..."she" will always be Amy and I will always refer "him" as "her" lol.

Jim

A surprise indeed! Glad Happy passed the egg safely and hope there will not be any more eggs from her.

Beautiful picture, Happy looks happy regardless of gender.

Glad it all turned out OK in the end! :D. When in doubt, always a great idea to consult a vet.

Happy looks really happy so the name really suits him and even though hes a girl if she is used of you saying Good Boy then she wont mind if you continnue telling her shes a Good Boy :) I hope the egg was a once off but if shes like other parrots (I have a Quaker Boy called Peter Pan who also surprised me with 2 eggs a year ago ) you may have another egg ...Glad there was nothing wrong and that it was just an egg :)

I'm taking her to vet tomorrow. Just a quick check and her nails need done.
I did learn a valuable lesson with this. We just returned Monday from vacation with both birds. I did not search the area for an avian vet. If this were to have happened there, I would have totally freaked out. From now on, if they go with us I will search for vets in the area ahead of time.
