I've heard that its the parrot that picks the owner or that there's an immediate bond, but I was kinda wondering about it....I would love if you guys shared your experiences.

I'll share my pet store visit today, just if you're bored, haha.

So I went there and was looking at the green cheek conure cause I've been researching them. He wasn't very responsive. I mean he looked at me but the Cinnamon and Maroon Belly were bobbing up and down for attention.

While I was admiring him and saying hi every so often, one of the ladies that work there (pretty sure she's the manager) and a guy came up and took the bare eyed cockatoo out. So they were both playing with him and then the "manager" left. Because this guy was with the cockatoo I assumed he worked there (later I asked, and he just turns out to know all the employees and visits all the time, I think he may know the manager).

He knew I was watching them and the cockatoo was performing all sorts of tricks. Anyways, I asked to hold him and he said yes. He came pretty willing because he knew step up. But as soon as he got on my hand he tried to climb up my arm which I didn't want to allow him to do and wasn't allow to let him to do and then he kinda stayed there but then he started to bite me (like not full bite but not playful either and he continued to do so) so I just gave him back and that was the end of that, haha.

So he continued to play with him and then put him back. He saw me looking at the conure again so he asked the girl petting the guinea pigs for a key, but she didn't have one so he went and got one and came back and opened the cage. He was trying to get him out but he was scared so I said it was fine but he wasn't willing to give up and got him out (I'm pretty sure this bird hasn't been handled much and he doesn't know step up). Anyways he gave him to me (difficulty, because he doesn't step up) and I was talking to him (the conure) but he was so nervous but the guy say it was ok (I didn't think so but the bird did calm down soon after).

Anyways the bird kept going between the two of us and I was talking and petting him. He even got to go on my shoulder (he preened my hair for like 5 seconds, haha) and I got to pull his wing out (i don't know what you call that), which was pretty exciting for me because I've never done that. He also showed me how the bird liked being in his jacket (it tried to climb in his sleeve) and it was tolerate of going on his back and getting kisses.

Then he told me when people pet their birds becks, its a bonding experience (true??) so he petted his beck and then he gave him to me and told me I could so I did and he at first tried to bite (not really, just kind of defensive) but he was alright with it right away. I then just continued to pet him pretty much all over him. This was for at least 20 minutes (guy has nothing better to do..? I don't know. haha). So then I put him back and he locked the cage and I told him thanks and he went to return the keys and talk to the cockatoo and later on the parakeet named zombie (haha).

I was still pretty mesmerized by the conure and my mom wasn't done shopping next door yet so I kinda just stood staring at him, haha. Then I said hi and stuff. I was wondering if he'd let me touch his beck again so I put the tip of finger in and tried to. He did what he did the first time (kinda freaked and then was fine). He came closer to the bars so i tried to pet his head but couldn't really reach (space between bars is very small obviously). After a minute, he got as close as he possible could and bent his head so I petted him like that until my mom came.

I then said bye... You have no idea how much I wish I had the money and knowledge to bring that little guy home! I don't know if that's what you guys have experience. Probably not, but I was just honored from him going from so scared to letting me pet his neck and all over. :D Made my day!

So I'd love if you'd share your stories! :)
