Store bought baby

I bought from a pet store. I know a lot of people advise against this, but these babies were just so cute. The pet store even called in the man who hand raised them to chat with me. He said that they are around ten weeks old. So, I decided to bring one home.

Here they are! We believe it is male, but no way to be certain. ;) I’m a bit surprised and somewhat worried with his behavior. When I got home I opened the box up on its side and decided to let him come out when he felt comfortable. He hissed briefly for 10 seconds then came out RUNNING and climbed onto me. Now he does not want to leave. He is closing his eyes and just preening/beak grinding. I have never had a new bird do this. I am scared this is going too quickly. I haven’t even introduced him to his cage yet! I also have not heard him make a noise besides hissing yet. Odd.

A bit fluffed up but I believe he is just sleepy. Nothing stuck in nostrils. Feathers clipped properly and feces look healthy. A bit of pin feathers but normal for a little baby like him. Any thoughts appreciated.

This is fine! A baby that is socialized want to be with flock , babies need more attention and time with you. He had a big scare, it's wonderful that he wants co.firy from you! Beak grinding is a happy bird, they do when relaxed and before sleep.
When he gets more relaxed, take him to cage but sit with him, so he can explore before sleep. But definitely babies need even more time with you and contact than adults. Play with food, help guide and teach him, start introducing chopped up veggies, babies learn to try more symtuff at this age.
He is very cute!
Congratulations, welcome to forum

Thank you, was just concerned this may have been going a bit too quickly. I’ve had experience with store bought budgies before and it took forever for them to warm up. My last cockatiel baby passed away, and today was my birthday, so my family decided to surprise me with a bird. I was a bit wary purchasing from a store but the babies had no problem stepping up and are socialized. So excited to spend time with this one. He adores scritches. :p

Happy birthday! There is nothing wrong with pet store birds;! It's just sometimes they develop fear if people because of forced interaction at the store if done wrong.
There is no reason to push w bird away if it wants to be with you! It great! We only say go slow if they are fearful. Just make sure baby gets lots i
Of naps, lots if little feed and water breaks, can have feed with you that's fine, but babies don't rember they have to eat, they wait for the flock to eat. So lol baby him!
My GCC came from a pet store, and she is wonderful!
