I came across this video while trying to find something to help with Topaz's screaming.

Its basicily a strobe light with a remote. and your bird screams you press a button for the strobe to come on and then turn it off.

What are your thoughts on this?

Eh, would you do that to a human toddler? Parrots have the mental and emotional capacity of a human toddler - they just sometimes lack the vocabulary to convey their wants and needs (much like a human toddler).

So I'd ask if you think using strobe lights on a human child is not cruel and unusual punishment?

I wouldn't use it, but no doubt there are parts of the world where this is considered ok.

I would not.
This is a new to you rehomed bird.
When I got Penny my rescue she screamed for two months. Because she was afraid, uncertain, grieving for her past home and terrible owners. Now that she trusts me, is bonfed to me and feels safe, gets hours outside of the cage. She doesn't scream any more at all period.

You got your rescue, and I saw the cage was way way to small that he came with. It was my thought you were going to get a much larger cage. Are you? Because that's a big factor in screaming, stuck in way to small a cage hour after hour with not much to do.
I mentioned th bird also needs more perches that just two, a that coconut husk he trys to stand on.
I know you said you got some toys , and that's great!
Instead if thinking how to stop the screaming, think instead how to prevent the screaming in the first place.
By having a large cage, by having outside of the cage time daily, by feeding a good diet, providing activities, foraging, and things to chomps on, by having a bond and friendship with the bird.
I know the screaming is rough, I've been through it. But two days isn't enough time to get past that. Hang in there!

He is quieting down, he is even beak grinding and accepting treats(through the cage bars) for clicker training.

The question was just in general. Thanks for all the feedback!

Interesting gadget- I had never heard of that one.
(Not that I will go out and buy/try one, but the idea of having an "off" button is tempting... )
So thank you for throwing it out there.

I am always amazed with things/ solutions people come up with.
Sometimes clever, sometimes ethical-debatable ...

(Glad to read the Topaz is settling in and starting to behave nicely btw)

I feel like this is too similar to spraying a bird in the face. The thing is, the bird isn't stopping because it has found a new or better way to get its needs met, it is just a temporary distraction that stuns the bird into silence. Inevitability, it seems that this would either be ignored by the bird or create a neurotic bird with issues...If a bird is screaming, you have to find out why and then work with nature to find a better way for it to get what it seeks (or reduce the bird's drive to get whatever that is)..
