Parrots
Gandalf - CAG (1997-2010) R.I.P. my baby boy.
Bitty - CAG (2 yrs old? and working on spoiling her rotten)
Wow...Bitty is clammed up like a mafioso in police custody.

Other than the defensive shrieking on the floor and the two "boops" while cuddle-scratching on Sunday, she hasn't made a sound. This is a total new experience to me, as Gandalf was a complete blabbermouth from the get-go. Even when he pouted after a disagreement, he'd usually start chiming in within a half hour or so.

She's climbing all over her cage, playing with toys, begging for food (grapes, banana, cornbread LOL)...but no sound. I checked the mute button on my remote, but it didn't have a "parrot" button. ;)

Anyone else ever have a new fid give them the silent treatment? For how long? (Pssssstttt, if you hadn't guessed, it's killing me with anticipation!)

Lol I feel your anticipation!

Ozzy was silent for a good week after I got him. He wouldnt even look straight at me for that week! I think it just takes time.. sometimes I wish now he would go back to that silent time lol!

When I first brought Nicky home he was really quiet for about a week until he opened up. It might take a while for Bitty to get used to her new surroundings. It all depends on the bird.

lol!!!!

Bless nofear! You're like a kid at Christmas! It makes me smile SO much.....

You know the answer to this one hahaha!

Enjoy! xx

Gotta laugh! LOL!
As you know, Fred wasn't quiet when he first came to live here...Fred is not really quiet for very long....ever! If you discover a "mute button," let me know! LOL!
I think Bitty is probably just adjusting. Enjoy the quiet......It's great that she's playing though. She's obviously comfortable.:)

Have you tried playing music?? Also the TV noise will usually illicit bird sounds. Lets here a song from you to her. Leave it to the greys to puzzle us humans.

The vacuum cleaner always gets my crew going! You could try it... if you're really tired of quiet!

I have gone back to leaving the Disney Channel on all day for her (Gandalf seemed to enjoy it).

I haven't tried the vacuum yet, for fear of frightening her, but it's a good idea. Though she has been quiet, she has had no problem keeping up the tradition of being a mess maker. ;) Her cage area needs a good vacuuming anyway.

Hopefully, in the not-too-distant future, I'll be begging for occasional silence LOL.

We've had our Sun now for a little over a month and just this week she started in on the screaming. LOL can't say I was looking forward to it but I had thought for a while there that I had the first silent Sun conure. :D

Don't worry, Bitty will open up eventually. Who knows if she'll be a blabbermouth - she may be much more subtle with her communications - but enjoy getting to know her and can't wait to see more pictures! :p

Is her hearing ok? Does she look in the direction of a sudden noise? Before starting the vacuume cleaner I usually warn Rosie with a "watch out". I think she may react to a sound she has never heard before such as a small bell if you have one.

I have ordered a Solitudes cd on natural parrot noises, in the hopes that it will make Vanilla feel comfortable in making noise again:) Maybe this will work for your little one.

She actually just wolf whistled a couple of times, and I heard a half second of me laughing I think! She also made the "grey scream" while hanging upside down playing with her rope toy. She was really having a ball!

She did this all within a 30 second period, before she realized I was listening and clammed back up LOL.

Okay...pictures are coming tomorrow. I will finally have good enough light (at least by my standards LOL) to take some good pics. I need some faster lenses!!!

I have to think this is due to me just leaving her in her cage the last day or two, as getting her back in after she flew off when I sneezed or whatever seemed to destroy the little trust we had built. I'm going to get her really used to my touch through the bars before I start letting her have a lot of out of cage time.

This sounds crazy to me too, but a couple of things have led me to believe this girl may not have had any out of cage time with her previous owner. For one, one of the first things she did when climbing around outside her cage was pry the manufacturer's badge off of it. I find it hard to believe that in 2 yrs with the first owner she didn't do this, when she did it in 2 days with me. Also, the lady told me she never used the seed catcher...if she was locked in her cage 24/7, yeah, I guess you might not need it.

So oddly enough, I think the little miss feels more secure just in her cage for the time being. She's still getting a lot of attention, playing tug of war and shred the napkin with me, as well as lots of tasty treats.

A wolf whistle, huh? Smart bird. I am going to remember this when you start posting threads on how to quiet your noisy bird down.

Wow, can this girl eat. Everytime I give her food, it's like she hasn't eaten in months. What an appetite!

LOL can't say I was looking forward to it but I had thought for a while there that I had the first silent Sun conure. :D

haha same here! After reading up on all that talk about sun conures being loud i thought i got lucky.

Norf you have yourself a gorgeous lady bird. She won't be Bitty after she eats all your wonderful nutritious foods. Her home is her castle too!! Very nice cage.

She's just lovely! I think she's still just not used to her new home. Give her time and she'll open up.

What a beauty OMG Bitty looks so gorgeous
She honestly looks so healthy and she is glowing
Love her cage, she will never get bored
Thanks for sharing
PS Mishka is on the lookout for a "wife" now, better warn Bitty
