My GCC will be 9 mos. old on Friday. He's been testing his wings and gradually getting better. At first he could only manage a couple inches off the ground. Then came a couple two foot high flights and finally today he surprised me with a circular flight around the dining room, into the living room where I was standing and landed on the back of my shoulder.

In conjunction with all of this natural freedom he is beginning to become more protective of his cage, water and food bowls. Not nipping but what I can describe as beaking. He will push me away with his beak.

Is this to be expected at 9 mos.?:)

Aaaah, the joys of dealing with the young! The good news is that he is beaking and not hard core biting. Try paying closer attention as to when and why he is being cage protective. Try changing water and food when he is not in the cage.

I do not think that this is an age issue.

Hopefully, it won't escalate and he keeps flying to me and not away.
