My avian vet, here in Montreal (Canada, for all my wonderful American friends) has hooked me up with a company about an hour drive from home who makes top-notch, custom made, 304 stainless steel cages.
Size: I'm thinking 36"W x 30"D x 48"H (suggested by Kiki) - bar spacing 3/4" - does anybody have better recommendations? Should I go wider, and less height?
Grate: I currently have a slide out grate, which, frankly is rather annoying to clean. Not the grate itself, but the tracks that it is set in. Has anybody out their tried a drop in grate: if so, advantages and disadvantages would be greatly appreciated.
Dome top vs. Flat top: what are your experiences? Which is better? And besides which, how on earth do you hang a toy from a dome top?
Feeding stations: how many? I currently have 3: pellets, veggies, and a special fruit/veggie concoction that I invented to get Kiki (who hates anything green?) to eat his green veggies. My water is in a Lixit bottle which can be attached anywhere. His sprouts just hang on a dish on the bars.
Does anybody think I should get 4 feeding stations?
My little buddy has been dealing with a recurring gastro infection (NO! not my fault) - however, my main concern is to get him a cage that is most readily adaptable to full and easy (like there is such a thing) cleaning. Ergo, my question about the drop down grate and dome top. Kiki and I (the pathetic, un-feathered mortal in his flock) would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions.
Must add that Kiki really doesn't mind how much I spend on his new house (big surprise) lol!
Last question: stainless steel: don't want it shiny and polished like a mirror, what is it called when it looks matte - haha, just matte, brushed - ?
Kiki sends his love to all his feathered friends, except those of his own species. He is convinced that he is the only WBC in the world and will do anything to protect is vaulted status!
