Spike is our 27 year old Cockatiel, who has a tumor on his chest. It is benign, and removing it is not an option as it is unlikely he would survive the surgery.
Spike joined our family back in May, and quickly stole our hearts. He is one of the sweetest birds I have ever met, and he loves to whistle to his Auntie Janine and Auntie Allee on the phone. He loves scritches, and his chop, and his toys, and still has a wonderful quality of life.
I truly love this little guy, and feel blessed to have him in our lives.

I'm fairly certain Spike feels equally blessed to have you in his life, my friend.

27 years old and still going strong? God bless him.

I love that little guy! It makes my day to hear him sing to me from his mommy's shoulder.

What a lovely little guy Terry. Thanks for sharing Spike with us:)

What a handsome bird, such an attentive face. You and Reg are so fortunate to have Spike in your lives.

I have a rescued one with this chest thing going on
I talked with some breeders today and brought this up and was told it can be a common thing with older birds who where not fed proper. mine seems to be a happy camper and very active.

thanks for your post

Spike.

You da man. Bird. YOU DA BIRD!

I salute you, little warrior'tiel!!!!

Spike is a such cute little guy. He looks so happy. I'm so glad I read this and that he is still with you. I'm happy that he keeps on birding on given the circumstances, but he is loved and well cared for.
