Hi

I am a new member. I adopted a 32 yo yellow naped recently and she has specks on the outter part of both eyes. She can see good. Does not appear to be the cloudiness associated with cataracts, but just wanted to know if any members have expierence with what I am referring to? I do have an appointment later this month with an avian vet.

if possible could you upload a picture? Nobody here is a vet (that we know of) but it might help give some insight

The outer eye structure of an Amazon is much like ours, a clear surface that contains a clear fluid. This 'area' of the eye is highly reflective and can reflect the interior structure of the eye, especially when an Amazon is pinning its eyes (rapid color change).

This structure, like ours is very smooth and any defect or damage could look like a speck. The fact that your Amazon has this on both eyes is very interesting since a defect or damage would more commonly be seen only in one eye.

As you look at these 'specks,' are they the same size and location on both eyes or do their size, number and location vary?

By chance are we talking about the white skin around the eye and that the specks, possible bumps are on this area?

Are the specks indented or sit proud of the surface?

Welcome to Parrot Forums and as importantly the Amazon Forum! Thank-you, for taking this older YNA in to your home!

'Boats.... eyelashes?

Good point Al!

Amazons as a family have eyelashes that depending on the Amazon could be confused with something else! However, this is more likely with a DYH Amazons with their clear lashes than with a YNA with their black lashes.

Once again, like Human eye structures, Amazons will have eye lashes across the top of the eye lid. Are you looking at the eyelashes?

Thank you for the replies and greetings on my membership. I will try to take a good picture tonight. ( at work now) Definitely looks like it is on the outter lens of both eyes. Specks or little scratches best way to describe. Interesting possibly reflecting damage from from inner eye......
