Hi am mizzy and my conure is Pauly.
Can Pauly have soup with me...chicken broth and peas only?

Many people may disagree with me but I don't understand why some people feed their parrots with meat.... Parrots aren't birds of prey and their diet isn't meat.
I can belive once time isn't bad (I mean meat in general) but this is the first step to have a feathered terrorist. Almost each parrot is curious what people eat and wanna get it too. When a parrot gets it for the first time this is a sign "I got it so I also can eat!". In this way the parrot starts to want more and more but feeding human food makes their life shorter. I've read many cases when parrots was biting and attacking when only saw owner eating without them.

Hello mizzy and Pauly. Welcome to the forums! Glad you found us. Lots of wonderful information to be found here, and some pretty amazing people as well. I'm not a dietary expert by any stretch of the imagination, but typically, broth is very high in salt, which is not a good thing for our birds. Anything with added salt or sugars is generally accepted as a NO GO. There's a whole sub forum about recipes and diet. Great info there, and also look in the conure species specific sub forum.

My Sun Conure loves to lap up some of my lentil and pea soups. He never eats much, but always loves to fly over and get a little taste of either that i'm eating. Yes, both are high in salt, but for little tastes here and there, I don't see a problem. My Sun has been doing it for years. Just don't start feeding soups as his regular diet! Little tastes while you're eating it is just fine imo.

My Sun also loves pizza. Whenever I eat it or even if I just say the word "pizza" he goes into a tizzy of happiness lol. I think he enjoys tearing off all the toppings more than eating it as when he's done with the little piece I give him, it's strewn all over the area, but not eaten.

My nearly 18 year old cockatiel's favorite junk foods are all things most would NEVER give their birds. Lmao.... salt and vinegar potato chips, ritz crackers, "flipsides" pretzel crackers, popcorn, small bits of grated cheddar cheese.... not a lot and not often, but I've given him these since he was a baby bird and he is still going strong. I wouldn't worry about it as long as there is no onion/garlic used to flavor the broth, and as long as you do not give a lot, or often.



Shrug, most everything in moderation. Key word tho, moderation. Once every few months is probably fine, but I wouldn't do more than that.

My Sun LOVES the Lays Stax potato chips, but only the regular flavor. I break the chip into small bit size pieces and place on top of his food and he dunks it in water before eating. He goes nuts for them, but yes, ONLY in moderation which is extremely important.
I'll break up just one chip every few days to give as a treat---it's the only brand of chip he likes lol. He turns his beak up at others....He loves Cheetos too...but only the Crunchy kind he'll eat....and again only on moderation as rare treats!!

A small taste of your soup periodically ought not be hazardous, perhaps two or three laps with the tongue? Important to distinguish between treat every week or so vs continuous consumption! Please ensure it is not heavily salted nor too hot!

1. NEVER share spit/ bitten-off-of food with your bird. Lots of people do, but it has been linked to illness and it is not safe.

2. The *****sodium****, garlic and onion in chicken soup make it unsafe..There is also oil (which should be avoided, plus preservatives in the chicken). 1 lick from a separate serving of soup (no double-dipping from humans)---maybe..but no more than that.

Now, if before you ate out of it, you removed a small noodle and rinsed it off (to remove extra salt etc), I think that would be fine. Generally, broth is going to be quite unhealthy if it is salty and most definitely not if you are eating out of the same bowl.

I personally wouldn’t give my baby soup for all of the reasons listed above, but you can certainly make some sharable meals and your bird will probably LOVE eating with you. Salad is probably he easiest bet-go through the list of bird save veggies and build a little masterpiece that you’ll both enjoy. No dressing for birdie, of course.

Another thing you can do is prep a little bowl of bird safe snacks (I usually put a piece of broccoli, carrot, kale/spinach, whatever fresh veggies I have on hand) and set that on the table next to your human-only food. Birdie will enjoy just eating at the same time you do.

Warning-don’t start a habit you don’t want to continue forever and ever. [emoji2] If it’s okay to have your bird at the table at every meal, then proceed with glee!

Welcome to the forum Mizzy and Pauly! As just about what everyone has stated..MODERATION is the key! Once a month maybe and just a couple laps.
Amy loves chicken bones..gives him something to destroy but also gets the marrow (calcium) and on occasion I DO leave a very small piece of extremely well cooked meat on the bone.Otherwise I make sure the bone has been picked clean prior to giving it to him.

I woudnt give any type of meat to my birds ive heard that chicken meat helps with breeding but im a bit skeptical about that like others said above me parrots arent predators

have any, was he happy about that...NO...they can be such brats
