Blue & Gold Macaw (Titan) & Yellow Naped Amazon (Kelly)
The older members will remember that Iā€™ve wanted a macaw for a long time. I almost adopted a blue and gold around 4 years ago but the second he met my mother he was obviously my mothers bird. Then, I almost adopted a scarlet a little over a year ago but that didnā€™t work out in the end.

Iā€™ve fallen in love with Titan a blue and gold at the shelter. Tomorrow he arrives for a week trial run! We made the trip down to Abba today to get a new cage, perches and toys for him. Iā€™m soooo excited that he is finally going to be here tomorrow. He is a very big personality macaw. He met my mother and Byron and tolerated them better than I thought he would. He tends to be very pushy and when he doesnā€™t like you you definitely know it. He is actually a transfer from another shelter where he was too aggressive for them to handle. He is more a give him an inch bird and he will walk all over you. But he lets me do anything to him. From trimming his nails while we sit at the table, pulling his wings out, grabbing him and flipping him over, holding him like a baby...you name it he lets me do it. His funniest trait is that he loves to stick his tongue out at people. The next in line is that he laughs at people when they fall or trip lol

Meet Titan! (Also his name is perfect for him:54:)

Victoria, he is gorgeous! I'm so excited for you!! Titan is a fantastic name.
Please keep sharing pictures when he comes home:) I wonder how Max is going to react!

That is awesome! How crazy is it that he will let you handle him after being deemed too aggressive?!

Definitely! I canā€™t wait to see how he does around Max. I donā€™t need them to love each other. Tolerating is just fine haha. I need to find a way to get minion hoodies made for Folger, Kelly and Titan:cool:

I honestly just think they had no idea how to handle a pushy macaw. And every time they backed down he just got more cocky lol He definitely isnt a ā€˜beginnerā€™ macaw but he isnā€™t the worst Iā€™ve ever met thatā€™s for sure! He likes to bully the girls working at the rescue right now still because heā€™s a brat:D We had him listed as macaw experienced home only for his adoption, so I have that in abundance haha

Congratulations, that is one impressive macaw. Seems Titan has chosen you, so saddle up and enjoy the ride!

He's so pretty! It sounds like he's really taken to you. When it's the right one, you know and they know! I hope it all works out and you have a good trial week. He sounds like a character.

Love the name and the description of his personality! Keep us posted!

Wow, what a handsome fellow he is. Good luck with your new FID, he sounds fantastic, and I just find it awesome to have a bird with a strong personality as a friend..... I'd LOVE a macaw but have never actually met one, some day maybe. Thinking about it, other than a macaw, a great hornbill would be an absoulte dream to meet.

Good luck you two.

One more thing, I had Enzo on a 3 month trial with the option to take her back at any time. As mentioned here, I think we both knew within days it was a great match and a dauntingly steep learning curve for me....

One last thing, what is the cage you have please?

Shelters are the best place to get macaw experience. Plenty of issues and personalities to deal with. Iā€™ve been with the shelter for 4 years now and the macaws are the easiest to work with for me haha. They are very obvious with their body language and their bite is actually one of the easier ones to deal with!

The cage is a 40x30 Kings cage.

Congrats, to both of you. Keep them pictures and videos coming.

Congrats. Let us know how the trial goes.
I agree with you about working with the macaws at the shelter. One of the few species I haven't taken a hard bite from when volunteering.

Yep he is the Lollypop farm Titan and was transferred to A Helping Wing awhile ago. I was looking at pictures today on their page and he didnā€™t look like he was too much of a problem. He was sitting with people. I know heā€™s a brat though so maybe thatā€™s where the info of aggression came from.

I didnā€™t realize he was from Lollypop until today either lol

Hey lady!! I know been forever since I've been here...

Max is part of the reason why things are a trial. Max was only exposed to one other blue and gold in our home (we were having adoption appointments here at my house because it was closer, Jeanne would come over with Johan and I'd make dinner for all of us - and anyone says rescues won't work with adopters!)... but Max had only been with us a little over a year at that time. When Johan came into the house, Max screamed his full bloody head off, and really went nuts if I showed Johan any attention at all. So, we had always just kinda figured we'd be a one macaw home. But Titan is with Victoria the same way Max is with me, there is no question that Titan's path was meant to lead him to Victoria... so being the awesome mom that I am (I actually have a screenshot where Victoria called me awesome... I know, I almost fainted too)! :p anyway, knowing my relationship with Max and what he brings to my life, I could not deny her that when it was clear Titan was her Max.... Figured we have a pretty big place, lots of room (literally we have two spare bedrooms, well really one because one bedroom is Max's!)... we have an upper and lower living room areas and there are two large floor playstands on the main living level that are barely used - remember Max is a floor bird... So, my logic and argument was that we have more space, ability and experience than alot of homes with two or more macaws that hate each other... As long as they don't try to kill the other, no reason we cannot make things work.

And then Titan arrived today and Max didn't make a peep about him... honestly we are all pretty surprised, but I think Max is a much more confident and secure bird than he was 3 years ago when Johan came in the door. Max still has some of his anxiety and separation issues, but nothing like how he arrived, he spends hours and hours (literally) getting in trouble on his own these days, so think he is much more secure in his position in the flock :)

Here are some videos of them today :) Does the one technically count as them 'playing' together! :)

They were both dancing... apparently male macaws bond over music and dancing or it was a 'bob' off, not sure which... had better video, but it had some language that probably would not have been appreciated, so going with this one...

And this is the one - count as the first time they 'played'... but you can clearly see it counts as the first time they made one heck of a mess... double the blue, double the crumbs and shreds!!
